Warcraft: Orcs & Humans
Review by Kaobasa
"Early 90's gaming was given a challenge when this game was realeased"
First of all I would like to say that this is a somewhat old game. So graphics, music, and sound effect will be graded by how they were when this game was released, NOT by todays standards. Now for a little bit of history on this game. This game was released in the early 90's and won many awards for its addictive gameplay. From graphics to sound this game had it all and had won a spot for one of the best games to ever be released.
Graphics: 8/10
Very good by early standards. Stumps are seen when trees have been cut down. Bodies slowly decay as time passes. Bows and spears are seen flying through the air as troops throw or shoot them. Units have a nice animation to them whether they are walking or attacking or even dieing. Each charecter is detailed to what computers could do back then so nothing is disappointing.
Sound: 8/10
The clanging of swords and the whoosh of a rock being thrown by a catapult, the chop chop of the trees being hit with axes are sounded here, but no sounds of the trees falling. Troops screaming when they die to ''YES SIR!'' when you click on them. The voice acting for these units are good but its the same voice for each unit.
Music: 3/10
I think (but im not sure) that there is only two musics in this game. From what I remember of course. The music is fine but varity WAS needed.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is what of course made this game so great. The easy movement of your units and the streategy that has to be placed in this game is what makes it fun. But if you have warcraft II then you know that that game tops this one. So if you just wanna see what this game is like then have a whirl there is nothing like playing a predecesor ( if its good! ).
Story Line: 10/10
Yes this game has a story line, and works it way up the series. Since this game is hard to find and I doubt the battlechest has the manuals, you may not get the storyline at all. The storyline is good and explaines things that may not be understandable in the other series. In the manual it explains how the orcs came into the world of Azeroth which is why I encourage you to find a manual. But if you dont care for storylines then dont bother.
A wonderfull game, give it play if you can find a copy. Nothing will suprise you becuase of todays gaming but isnt it fun to play gaming history?
