Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
Review by Kaobasa
"Still a great game..."
Warcraft II was realeased sometime in 1996 ( not too sure ). By now blizzard was on a roll even if they did have only one game out. This game had also gotten an award for its wonderful gameplay and graphics. Maybe after a year later its expanion pack Beyond the Dark Portal had been realeased which also gotten an award. This game shouldnt fall short of anything.
Gameplay: 10/10
Pretty much the same as War1 with a few suttle changes. The game is still easy to move around such as right click commands to make it easier to move your units around. Some new units such as ogres, trolls and a whole arsenal of water units are now added to the game with many others. Some new scenery like snow and wasteland give the game more of a conquer feeling. A new rescource has been added which is oil which will be needed to upgrade your buildings and units attack and armor. Single player is fun and can be challenging, if you dont cheat. Custom games can let you practice against comps and such. Nothing here is really displeasing considering the game is fairly old.
Sound: 8/10
No complaints here. Swords clanging and the chopping of trees, its all here. Including some good voice acting for the units when you click on them, or click on them too much. Some are repetive but nothing major.
Music: 7/10
This time around the game places at least 2 musics for each race. Which is four all together, a couple more are added if you have the expanion pack. You will probobly end up turning it off though.
Graphics: 8/10
The game uses colorful cartoonish graphics. No complaints here either, unless you hate it. But everything is pretty much detailed to what comps could do back then. Such as the building haveing little windows and such.
Story: 10/10
Read the manuals like I always say. The manuals explain the storyline more than the gameplay does, so dont bash the games storyline becuase its really good. Warcraft II storyline starts off of when the humans have lost their land and are forced to form an allience with the elves and dwarfs, and the Orcs still hunger for battle and build ships to work their way across the sea to finish off the humans.
Overall: 8/10
Like I said its an old game so everything here is all based on what comps could do back then. Also if you still have an old version of war2, when you are installing it go to sound test and keep clicking test.....
