Z
Review by Dracula AGN
"Alrgiht, you LARD asses!!!"
Z... Not such a creative name, but hell, this game kicks!!! Take an old RTS game, mix in a bunch of smart talkin' robot warriors, with VERY good voice acting along with hilarious ct scenes, and you got Z. Let's get more specific...
Graphics- 8
The in-game graphics are very nice, for an old RTS. The battlefields are as simple as 2D overhead turains. But, the neat thing is that your little armies can blow up almost anything!!! Sometimes, if you wait long enough, they shoot simple details, and a really cool animation of it shows up. Let's say, in the desert, they'll blow up jackrabbits, and you can see it fly up in the air in flames. The soldiers all look the same, they are red if they're controlled by you, and they're blue if they're enemies. Still, they have tons of animation even when you're not controlling them. You can see them pace around, scratch their ass, whatever. Now, with the cutscenes, they are beautiful. They're all in CG animation, but it's still awesome. Just the introduction is enough to laugh your ass off about. But you also have to note that it's pixelated because it's pretty old, and it's on DOS. Still, graphics are nice for what they are given on.
Sound- 8
The music changes durring the situation, but it sounds like the same thing. If your not doing any fighting or just exploring, normal music plays. If you get close to an enemy territory, it get's a little upbeat. If your in battle, it get's even more upbeat with more instruments. Now, as for the sound effects, they are more creative. The voices are pretty funny. If they're losing a battle, they cus at you. If you win a battle, they cheer and say complimenting stuff. Other sound effects, guns, explosions, vehicle motors, they're in here. I'm only disapointed by the fact that if you blow up an animal, they don't squeel or anything... Oh well.
Gameplay- 10
Same old RTS control, click the mouse and tell them where to go. Simple enough. That's pretty good, since it's not too complicated, it just depends on how good your mouse is. Nothing else get's in your way, since your army can do simple things with you asking. If you tell them to get a flag, they'll do it, and get a jeep, some weapons, maybe two or three more flags on the way. Very nicely done.
Story- 10
Ok, not really a story, just a war. I gave the story a 10 because the cutscenes just give you some kinda story on two drunk headed robot's and a bad-ass general, Zod.
Difficulty- 10
Ah!!! Just about as tough as nails! But, it shouldn't get you aggravated. Not only that, another cutscene shows up that ties in more humor!!! YEAH!!!
Replay Value- 9
Yeah, you'll come back. It's just a feeling of accomplishment that makes you wanna make Zod happy for you. Not only that, but just to see EVERY cutscene again!
Overall- 9
Yeah, this game has everything a basic RTS game has, except robot's with balls of steel (literally). How many other RTS game can I list that made me laugh out loud, kick some ass, and made me get the munchies at the same time? None. Somewhat oldschool, but any RTS fan will love this!!!
