Blood

Review by colroem

"Simply Astounding"

Graphics: Although this game is based off of the engine for Duke Nukem 3D, I was a great deal more impressed with this games presentation. First, the levels are really well designed. When you first play it enemies are well placed and often hidden. This keeps the action very fast, as you are often trying to dodge one thing or another. Second, the amount of level interaction is quite large. It seems that it even rivals that of more recent games. I cannot convey how much fun it is to be in a fight and destroy the surrounding graveyard, along with your foe(s). Third, the enemies are great looking. Their respective animations are pretty slim, but that was a sign of the times. The game as a whole though, even on a fairly aged computer like the one I use, is pure silk. It runs great, with only a minor amount of slow-down during high-action sequences.

Sound: This review is based off a copy borrowed from a friend. Therefore, I did not play with the CD and experienced none of the CD sound. The sound was alright, but truthfully I didn't care all that much. Its the usual fare, enemies groan when they die and so on. I wasn't playing the game for advanced 3D sound effects, after-all.

Gameplay: This game is some hard core fun, I'll tell ya'. The controls are fully customizable. I have a friend that uses the Duke 3D setup and just cannot get into that, so I just changed it to the standard wasd form. After that, it is utterly playable. The weapons are standard at times, and at others they are very creative. Imagine fighting a few enemies with a voodoo doll. Oh yeah. Also, the weapons in this game have a secondary fire. Amazing that an action PC game should think so far ahead. Another thing about this game that I loved is its pace. It is fast.

Overall: I highly suggest you go out and buy this game right away. I enjoyed it more than both Doom and Duke 3D. Maybe you think I am being overly dramatic, but just you wait. Look for ''Blood: Special Edition'', this includes the game, and the mission pack, and the level editor (WOW). I should definitely mention the online play, because it is there. However, I do not know anyone who I can test this out with. Sorry. Buy it soon. thanks for reading.
