RollerCoaster Tycoon: Loopy Landscapes
Review by Joseph Mostarda
"RollerCoaster Tycoon isn't RollerCoaster Tycoon with this expansion!"
WOW! RollerCoaster Tycoon! I don't need to write a review; you know this game is good. But what do I say about the expansion, Loopy Landscapes? I mean, it includes the other expansion, Corkscrew Follies, right on it! It gives you new powerful tools, it... (okay, time for the review!)
Story 0/10- You build an amusement park, and that's about it. Sorry.
Graphics 10/10- They're not 3D. They don't need to be 3D. To be honest, I have no idea if it is 2D or not. All you need to know is the graphics are very good. The rides are well drawn, the peeps are realistic, there is rain, and there is puke. The graphics are simple yet full of life and character. Plus, you can even see light bouncing off coasters. Realistic!
Gameplay 10/10- This is really what makes the expansion shine. For those who don't have RCT, basically, you have a landscape view, which shows your park and everything in it, and on top of that there is your menu. This is where you select what rides to build, what type of landscape your park will have, which staff members you will hire, etc. It doesn't change in LL, but it does add some new things. Obviously, it specializes in landscaping. However, since it includes CF, it also enhances coaster designing tremendously. Back to the landscaping. You have new walls, new ground, new scenery, banner signs, and a cool new feature: now you can change the entrance/exit stations. You can make them look like medieval castles if you want! There is no end to the gameplay; if you can think of it, you can build it!
(Just a quick run-through, LL roughly adds 4 new coasters, while CF will add about 6.)
Sound 9/10- The sound is nice. In fact, it was recorded at an actually theme park in England! So, you can always hear your screaming guests, the chatting of the walking guests, you can hear the coasters on the tracks; the sound is very well done.
Music 9/10- The music is also well done. You can set almost every ride to music now. There are some new tunes including the jazzy Ice Style to the spooky Space Style. The music will really add depth to this game.
Verdict-
Story 0/10
Graphics 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Sound 9/10
Music 9/10
Replay Value 10/10
Overall: 10/10
Pros:
Very well made; addictive
Lots of rides and scenery
Even people who hate strategy games will love this!
Cons:
Having to wait for RCT2, coming Oct. 15!
Final Word- Loopy Landscapes is essential if you plan to own or have RCT. If you don't own either, I suggest you buy RCT: Gold Edition, which gives you RollerCoaster Tycoon and Loopy Landscapes together!
