"A Beautiful Story That Will Leave You In Tears"
Firsts things first, Kana is an adult game, you must be of legal adult age at wherever you live to play it. If you don't like crying, depressing stories, or storylines in general, do not bother to continue reading, this game is not for you. Now on with the review~!
The main gist of the story is this: Your little sister Kana has been suffering from chronic renal failure all her life. Though you used to hate her because she was always treated differently than you, a certain event during your childhood changes your feelings towards her, making you feel it's your duty to protect her from any and all harm. That's pretty much all I can say about the story without revealing any spoilers. The storyline is simply put, beautiful, and as I hinted in the beginning, a major tear jerker. I don't usually (well, practically never) cry playing games, but this one had me tearing up, it was pretty depressing.
As with most Bishoujo games, this is a visual novel style game, meaning there is pretty much no gameplay whatsoever. The best I can describe it as is it's like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, where you read, turn the page, (click the mouse) and at specific points in the story you make a decision (some minor, some major) which affects what path you take in the game, and ultimately lead you to one of the multiple endings.
The artwork was on the most part either cute or lovely, though there were some times when the characters looked a little strange.
The soundtrack is nothing spectacular, several tracks that are around a minute or so and loop, but it did fit the game well.
The replayability of Kana is pretty high, as I stated before there are multiple endings, six to be exact. (Seven if you count the little side story that opens up after getting a certain kind of ending.)
Now, to the flaws, which for the most part aren't too major and don't really affect Kana that much. Besides the odd spelling and/or grammar error, sometimes when a character was speaking the game would display the wrong name. My major complaint, however, is that I wish there was more of a differential between the separate story paths.
Overall, I consider Kana Little Sister a must buy. If you like great storylines and/or in the mood for a tear jerker, then this is the game for you.
