Chaos Overlords
Review by mantra magus
"A great & addicting game!"
INTRODUCTION
-Chaos Overlords was created by New Game Computing back in 1996. This is a war-like strategy game that is one of the best of its time, heck, best of present time in my opinion! So here is my review of ''Chaos Overlords''.
GRAPHICS (n/a)
Chaos Overlords doesnt really have any graphics, because the way its set up, it doesnt need them. The map is a big checker-board type layout with each square acting as a ''sector''. During the fighting it portrays the fighters fairly well, small, but still cool looking. Also it has pictures when you have police crackdowns, new weapons/armor, new researches, and influences too.
SOUND/MUSIC (10/10)
The sound on this game is great by all means! The song in the background can get annoying, but you can choose from others as well. The sound effects are awesome too. Whether its a shotgun, flamethrower, grenade launcher, or machine gun--the sounds match them perfectly. Even if you dislike the music, you can always put something else on- but it doesnt seem the same to me without the sound effects.
GAMEPLAY (10/10)
Here is where this game takes the cake in my opinion. Basically the object of the game is to control as much ''sectors'' as possible, while having adequate gangs to defend them. About gangs, every turn you get 3 gangs to choose from to buy, their price values how good they are. Each gang has chaos, attack, defense, research, influence, martial arts, etc.... stats. You buy them with the money you make by researching science, controlling sectors, and using ''chaos''(makes you money each turn). You win when you have captured each players ''headquarters'' and defeated all their gangs. Througout the game you have a massive selection of weapons, armor, items, and accessories. This game can be host to 4 player wars too, just as long as your willing to switch seats every turn.
-Also, you can choose from about 10 different game modes at the menu screen. So you can try all sorts of different ways of playing! You can also change the time limit for turns, the difficulty, and style of play.
MY LITTLE CONCLUSION
All in all , i think anyone who likes strategic war games should definitely BUY this game! I lost my cd for it, and am still trying to get it back somehow. It only goes for around $5-15, so its not that hard to pick up, if you can find it anywhere!
