Divine Divinity
Review by Argon Rackmar
"A game that combines the best RPG's have to offer."
Divine Divinity is a hack'n slash similar to Diablo 2. It is also similar to Morrowind. What it does is fuses these games best elements and (for the most part) gets rid of their bad traits.
Diablo 2 had great hack'n slash gameplay, you explored dank dungeons, killed hordes of undead and demons and collected lots of cool items. It was allot of fun. But there were problems. The quests were, for the most part, delivery boy quests. You know, ''Go get me such and such item from such and such dungeon and bring it back'' Booooring! Plus you had to do them, you had no choice in the matter. It could get very annoying.
Morrowind was great because it was so open ended. You did not have to do the ''main'' quest if you did not want to. You could just join one of the many guilds of the game and do quests for them. You could do some of the many side quests that were not associated with any one organization. The world was huge and there were many, many things to do. But, again, there were problems. The combat was clumsy, it used a FPS perspective, this does not seem to work well at all with close-up fighting. Casting spells and shooting arrows also was a problem. You see, there was a crosshair in the middle of the screen. You would think that you would line up the crosshair on your foe and fire your spell/arrow/whatever. Well, that did not work too well. Projectiles would go above or below the crosshair depending on how far up or down you were looking. With bows it was worse, your shot would also go to the left of the crosshairs.
Divine Divinity takes the great hack'n slash elements of Diablo 2 and combines them with the great open ended variety of Morrowind. The combat is much more enjoyable than that of Morrowind and there are lots of side quests to do. It also helps that the game is humorous with it's dialog. For instance, in the ''Personal traits'' screen it shows my lightning resistance as zero, with the text: ''You have no resistance to lightning, join the rest of the human race. Avoid pesky wizards and Gods'' Heh.
So in conclusion, if you liked Diablo 2 but hated the boring quests or loved Morrowind but had problems with the cumbersome combat, you will love Divine Divinity.
