The Thing

Review by Wist

"Original and Fun, but wears out"

Taking place after the John Carpenter's The Thing, you're rescue squad is put right into the aftermath of this chaotic research facility. Unaware of the events that happened, you will find this base destroyed and what remains, infested with extra terrestrials like you never seen before. Who is friend, who is foe? Trust is an important factor and if you don't prove your reliability to your team, they might think twice about you being human...

The Thing is like no other game. Its all in third person and is team oriented. You must keep your team's trust in you or they might believe that you are infected by the thing. Give your squad weapons, ammo, medical help, and prove effective in battle to show that you are human. When in the battle with extra terrestrials, your team mates might freak out or become frightened by the atrocities. I mean, fighting aliens would have a psychological affect on a person. You will face hardships and sometimes be in the dilemma whether to trust this newcomer to your team, or think twice about him. Give him a blood test to see if he's truly human.

The Story is decent, and seems to progress the game well. The only problem with it, is that it is a very short game.

The graphics are well done. The cold exterior of Antarctica really sets the mood. The wind and snow whipping against your character, facing sub zero temperatures and aliens at the same time, can be really intense. The interiors are also done well. Resembling a research facility, the place is really designed well.

The sound is realistic and the music is very well timed. Most of the game is silent, but when things heat up, so does the score. The sounds are also done well. The rattling of bullets and screeching aliens really set the atmosphere.

The Thing, however, has its flaws. As I said before, it is very short. You will beat the game, possibly in one day and have no urge to play it again. The controls are a little awkward and shooting can be a problem. Other than that, this game is really well put together and is one of the best ''movie to game'' games out there.

I enjoyed this game and you will too. It doesn't make my favorite games of all time list, but it is a fun game to play. You will really like it at first, but the fun dies out. Its very repetitious and you will find yourself doing the same stuff over and over again. Don't get me wrong though, its very fun and original and you won't regret this purchase!
