Escape from Monkey Island
Review by MastaJackson
"Guybrush Threepwood: Mighty Pirate"
...and might he is. This is a very funny game game, but the puzzles most consist of picking things up and trying them on everything in the room. There is some good game-play to be had, but it is very far apart in the game, the only thing that this game is worth for, is laughter, and for that, its worth at least the PS2 rent.
Graphics 3/5
The graphics are cartoonish, but add to the comedy. It was a big step to go from true cartoony 2D drawings, to full 3D, and I think some people were angry they took that step, I, personally, am not. I find its nice to see Guybrush in full 3D, as well as all the earlier characters, most of them do show up. There is some problems with the maps, they are sometimes confusing, and there is no real camera view change, in a crowded bar, from far away, it may be hard to distinguish yourself from the local barfly's.
Sound 3/5
No complaints, the voices capture the characters quite well, no other pros or cons to speak of.
Controls 5/5
Since this is a point a click game, picking up objects and giving them to people, the controls are easily mastered.
Gameplay 2/5
This is where I found the game really lacking, although extremely humorous, with quotes that will be stuck in gamers minds for years to come, it seems like the game-play is just a series of events leading to a punch-line, no real objective. You can't die, so things can get boring, but at least you don't have to do things over and over again because of death. I found myself falling asleep sometimes, not because it was too boring, because this game is very god damned addicting and I stayed up until 4 in the morning, earlier I said that it is just boring puzzles to punch-lines, but the jokes are funny, and quite constant, I think that's enough to keep you playing, and if you played all the rest, seeing old characters in 3D well delight you, and seeing how the events in the first 3 games effected them.
Outro
That's right, an outro, now aint that fancy? Anyway, I don't recommend this game for a buy, rent the PS2 version, if you were really into the original games, this game does work more for fans of the game. This game is full of early gaming nostalgia and good moral gaming, Christians will love it! Unless they don't like pirates, then I don't recommend it...
