"A truly emotional experience..."
Note: This is an adult game, there are scenes that are not for children. Again, it's only for adults.
What if you only have a few months to live? Of course you're going to live it to the fullest. Not many Bishoujo games have great storylines, but after playing Kana - Little Sister, You can rest assure that there is one that has.
Okay, you play as Kana's brother. Of all the things she has to face, this has got to be the worst. She's been suffering from chronic renal failure in her life. She can't do things normal people do.You used to hate her since your parents treats her differently. But something happened made you change, now your feelings change about her, you started caring her, have an irresistible urge to protect her form anything that will hurt her. You started to love her, maybe a bit too much love.
That is just a start, it's up to you how it ends.
If you like a good story, then this is a game for you, it's incredible, like a good novel, you can't just put it away. But to those who like happy stories, don't expect anything here. It's very depressing, and you will cry a lot (and I mean A LOT). I've played many Bishoujo games but this one really got to me. Like you're really in the story.
Using the standard format in Bishoujo games, you point and click through lots of text, and the graphics at the background. There are different choices you have to make, and those choices affect the course of the game (may it be minimal or a huge change). There are many decisions you make that help you get the different endings in the game.
There are differences while I'm playing it, first thing is that there is no borders or any boxes that separate the text and the graphics, which is different form the standard graphics box and text box interface. Quite a new change to the ordinary. Also, the graphics come out a bit dark when text is displayed. It doesn't ruin it a lot, it just feels different.
The artwork are good. You won't find super-cute girls this time. Instead, you get a real (quite realistic) art for the characters.
The sounds are okay, the sounds repeat again and again. But it matches well to the mood of the story.
The replay value of Kana is high. Don't expect to finish the game in one sitting, since there are many choices that changes the outcome of the game, you will be playing it again and again. Just take a deep breath first before starting again.
Though Kana is a good game, it has some problems. One will be that there are some weird spelling and grammar errors here and there. Another is that there is minimal change in the story as you make other decisions.
For those people who like lots of cg scenes and lots of girls to get may be a bit disappointed. The story hinders from having those things, but if you like the story why bother?
Finally, If you want to rent or buy this game, buy it. It's worth it.
Overall, a great story, a very emotional game makes Kana - Little Sister a different, but a great Bishoujo game.
