Review by Grenade Guzzler
"So many things are customizable here, it's a pain... good game though"
Ah, Worms 2. The former to Worms Armageddon. I have always been a big fan of the Worms series, and the 1997 classic doesn't disappoint.
Made in 1997? Wow, the graphics must suck.
The graphics here were the first of its kind in the Worms series. Team17 literally ripped the worms out of their blocky state and animated then very nicely. The weapons are no longer scarse and simple. It is also MUCH easier to adjust your power as a ''power meter'' extends into your aiming sight rather than in a bar on the bottom of the screen.
Wait a sec, you were just talking about gameplay!!!
Pipe down. The reason I mentioned this is that it's easier to see for Worms newbies to judge the power. The reason I did take off two points though is because the backgrounds and terrain are a bit bland, and the screen is stuck in that 640x480 resolution. I don't always want close ups you know.
Graphics: 8/10
Okay, so the graphics are not bad. The control must suck though!
No, they do not suck. They are easy to learn and understand perfectly. The left and right arrow keys make your Worm walk, the up/down ones adjust your aim. Spacebar to shoot, tab to switch worms, number keys to adjust fuses and the + -keys to adjust grenade bounces. You also use the right mouse button to select weapons. Easy!
Control: 10/10
So the graphics and control don't suck... but I bet the gameplay does!!!
The gameplay is also simple, it's... well, simple! You have a wide variety of weapons in which to blast enemies. If you're going solo, you can set the game up to play a single player mission, or you can create some CPU players and play around with them. Worms 2 is also a multiplayer blast, and up to 18 people can participate in a game.
So many things are customizable in the game that it's crazy. The weapons, levels, options... EVERYTHING can be customized. It can kind of be a pain though since it can take a long time to create the game you want.
Gameplay: 9/10
So the game itself is good. I bet it gets boring after you play it the first time though!
Nope, it doesn't. The great things about Worms 2 is its replayability. You can always customize weapons for new and wacky games, and you can play the missions for a challenge. You'll come back, trust me.
Replayability: 10/10
Okay, but can you play it over the internet, Mr. Big Shot? 100 bucks says you can't!
Yep, you can play over the internet. Even though the server is rarely packed and the game options windows are poorly done, you can still play over it. Now give me my hundred bucks.
Internet Play: 7/10
Maybe I was wrong. I'll try it, but I won't like it!
Oh yes you will. Worms is one of the most fun game series ever created in sheer strategy and replayability. If you consider yourself a strategic gamer, get this game now!
