Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis
Review by CheekyMonkey947
"If I Could've Put 100 out of 10, I Would Have"
Please note: That I played this on a friend's computer and I so I didn't have full access to game content, however I am getting Game of the Year Edition so I'll update my review then.
Grahpics: 9/10
I've read a few reviews on this and everybody mentions the terrible graphics etc. However, I beg to differ as I think the graphics in this are gorgeous. Oh yes, not only the detail on characters and vehicles, but the whole landscape of the Malden Islands, it's just so beautiful, but I guess you're too busy killing Russians to notice...
Although sometimes the characters movements can look a little dodgy (probably need some sort of medication) most of the time you shall be satisfied to full measure. What'd be nice would be to just get into a Cessna and fly around the islands, taking in the lovely landscape...
Sound: 9/10
Nothing special here, except amazing quality. Sure, some of the time they may sound like they've had one two many beers, but like graphics you should find yourself quite pleased with the overall quality and presentation of the sound. The weapon sounds are realistic, the vehicle sounds are realistic. Shame it doesn't have some more natural noises (farts, burps etc.) but maybe that would ruin the game altogether, making it seem more of a joke.
Music: 10/10
Well done to whoever composed the music as it is perfect. For every situation the music is brilliant and just right, a particular favourite piece of mine is very near the beginning, you're in a Jeep going to a forest to clear out some Russians (or it could be on the way back from the forest, I can't remember)
Intro: ?/10
If there is an intro, I haven't seen it. I was too busy skipping it to get straight into the game, if there is an intro, I am yet to see it.
Cutscenes: 10/10
I've always found that cutscenes are 100% better when they don't change the video mode or type. In Op Flsh, the cutscenes use the same graphics as when you play the game, which is very good. The characters look so real, as do the landscapes, it is almost like watching a movie. Their mouths move in sync with what is being said, unlike dubbed movies...
Multiplayer: ?/10
I haven't played multiplayer yet, but if it is anything as large and exciting as the Single Player campaign, it should be wicked.
Replayability: 10/10
You've got multiplayer and you've got single missions, not forgetting the all imporant Mission Editor. Any game with a simple and easy to use mission editor, is a good game. Why? Because if you complete the game and then there is nothing more to do, than you just chuck the game away because your bored, not when you have a mission editor, it's like Lego, your world your rules. Some of the single player missions are good for practice, what'd be good for those unexperienced flyers, to use the mission editor, put NO enemies in, and just a plane or helicopter, get used to the controls and feel of it.
Pros:
+ Excellent AI
+ Ability to drive tanks/cars/trucks and fly planes/helicopters
+ VERY realistic.
+ Excellent graphics, very realistic looking.
+ Mission Editor
Cons:
- Nothing I can think of.
Final Verdict:
If you have £35 to spare, buy Game of the Year Edition. I haven't played any of the upgrades, except the first mission of Red Hammer. I'm really looking forward to getting my own version because the first time I played this I thought 'WOW', why? Because it is one of the best games around. If games were made as good as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, the future is looking good my friends.
