Battlefield 1942

Review by Cf0

"An excellent game I reccomend all FPS and war fans to try"

Graphics - 8
The graphics on this game are excellent on the whole. The maps look very realistic and detailed, and the view distance is impressive. There are a couple of flaws however. In huge open areas with a lot going on you can experience slow down, even on a really good PC. Also, the water effects are very unconvincing, which considering there is water everywhere in this game, is a bit of a dissapointment.

Sound - 8
The sound is excellent. It really enhances the atmosphere. Whereever you go you can hear planes flying overhead, explosions in the distance, bullets flying past your head. The sounds themselves aren't the best in the world, but the way they fit together works very well. I found a few problems in the sound once, where it got stuck on a continual loop. I know others who have had this problem. No doubt it will be fixed in a future patch. Special credit must go to the music which plays when you're joining a game.

Gameplay - 9
When you join a game you have the choice of 2 teams, the axis and the allies. When you make your choice you can choose 1 of 5 classes; sniper, assault, anti-tank, medic and engineer. The concept of classes is nothing new, and I won't go into detail about the classes. On each map there is a huge array of vehicles. Tanks, planes, jeeps, APCs, boats, subs and more. All vehicles can be driven by players, and most of them have guns on them you can wreak destruction with. The vehicles enhance the gameplay a lot and set this apart from other FPS. The only problem comes where the map is so huge that you need a vehicle, and there aren't any available. The main modes of gameplay are Assault: Conquest and Assault: Head-On. In Conquest the axis have to capture all the command points from the allies to drain their tickets(score in other words). In Head-On you lower the other teams tickets by holding the most command points. You can also lower the other teams tickets by killing them. The first team to reach 0 tickets loses.

Lifespan - 7
This is the only area of the game I have concerns about. As fun as the game is I often find myself not wanting to play it at times, and I can't quite figure out why. Maybe it's because none of my friends really play this game, and I always find games more enjoyable playing with someone I know. Join a clan however and you'll find the lifespan of this game rocket. There are, like most FPS, leagues and cups you can join as clans. These are tremendous fun.

Overall - 8
An excellent game I reccomend all FPS and war fans to try, just be warned that you need a good PC to play this one.
