Quake
Review by Aardvark
"If you have some extra money, RUN TO THE STORE AND GET QUAKE!!!!!!!!!!!"
Remember that old game Wolfenstein 3-D? You know how Doom took it one step further? Well, Quake takes Doom one step further.
In Quake, you play as a soldier trying to save the world from a monster known as Quake. To do so, you must travel through warps called "slipgates". Just trying to get to the end of a level in Quake is a challenge. But you must also battle monsters along the way! There's rabid dogs, zombie soldiers, and big animals with chainsaws and grenade launchers.
To battle these enemies, you must find different weapons scattered throughout the game. That small shotgun you start with ain't gonna get you beans. Some of these weapons are a nailgun, a rocket launcher, and an electric zapper-thingie. Also, you must find ammo boxes to power up these babies. What good would an empty rocket launcher do you?
Now consider this: would you have more fun playing Quake alone, or with a friend or 2 (or 8)??? Quake also has internet and network support, so you can blow your buddies apart long after you complete the game.
Graphics - 9/10
The graphics in this game ROCK. From the sight of blood splattered all over the walls, to the scary lighting in dark hallways, you'll be freaked if you play this late at night.
Sound - 9/10
The sound is also EXCELLENT. Zombies moan and dogs growl. It's enough to freak you out (again). Not much music at all, makes it even freakier. But you can pop a CD in, and Quake plays your favorite song over and over.
Story - 5/10
Not much of a story, you must go kill a big monster. We've all seen it too much.
Replay Value - 8/10
There's 4 episodes in the game, each with about 7 levels. Even if you beat them all, you can try to do it on all 4 diffuculty levels. When you finally get that taken care of, there's the multiplayer possibilities. Ahhhh, this game has so much to offer!
So, Quake is a superb game. If you don't have it, I highly suggest you go look for it. It's sorta old, might have trouble finding it (check Ebay or Etoys). Almost anyone playing this game will come back for more and more.
