Asheron's Call

Review by Aphelionex

"The Call is a Lie"

I will begin by explaining why this game received a 5. I am NOT always a negative reviewer; I am an advanced RPG/ADVENTURE game tester.

GRAPHICS: 9/10
Very detailed and impressive, but can become EXTREMELY tedious. Later explained under gameplay.

SOUND: 2/10
Pitiful. Where's the music? Where's the expected super-sound effects? All the weapons sound the same, your footsteps are annoying, and that 'doing-doingy' sound whenever you transport or exit the world will eventually make you pull your hair out.

GAMEPLAY: 4/10
LIGHTS - good lighting effects but often TOO bright.

CAMERA - HORRIBLE! It makes you want to hurl. Alike the B-W.Project. Now, imagine watching that for 100 hours...

ACTION - ACTION? ACTION? Let's see...when you begin, every once in a while you meet a rabbit - and these things chase after you...but you slash at them or blow them up. Then, you may meet drudges, and they come at you shrieking...overall, the action is very unbalanced.

MAJOR PROS AND CONS
1) Internet play
Pro: You can actually talk to people and perform actions
Con: An extremely high cost per/month...practically 40 dollars U.S. This game is very long, so times that by a year, and you have almost 300 bucks drained

2) Spells and Weapons
Pro: Many of them
Cons: TOO many of them - once again, unbalanced! Take FFVII for example. There is good magic and good weapons, a fair amount to keep players satisfied. In Asheron, there are over 15000 spells and thousands of weapons. By the time you get the most impressive and strongest spells, it will be time for Diablo III.

3) Spells (specified)
Cons: innovative
Pros: ...but repetitive. Too much trial and error when making your own spells, and very costly.

IN GENERAL: This game is NOT worth the money. The $50 originally plus the monthly fees are too much. I recommend waiting for Ultima, Diablo II, or Baldur's Gate II.
