Impossible Creatures
Review by TheLastHonestPizza
"A great multiplayer RTS"
Not many people have heard of a real time strategy game called Impossible Creatures. After playing so many RTS games (starcraft, warcraft I, warcraft II, warcraft III, age of empires... etc) I get tired of using the pre-made units, often wanting to create my own race. In most games I am forced to make a mod, which usually doesn't work. I recently found Impossible Creatures, and despite its horrible title and no publicity, I found the game to my liking.
The game is much like a traditional RTS except the fact that you create your own units by combining several animals, however, only two creatures can be combined at once. You select what part of each animal gets put in the finished creature. With the creature unlocker there are around 50 different creatures to combine, creating almost endless combinations. In addition, Relic (the company that made the game) released the development tools, allowing players to create even more creatures.
The single player game is alright. The plot is a little thin, and it can get impossibly difficult. The story is in the lines of you are an Animal expert ex-news reporter in the 1930's who encounters strange creatures, and starts to fight them with creatures of your own. ( 6 / 10 )
The multiplayer is what saves this game. Multiplayer is endless fun, as you do not know what units you may encounter unless you have fought against who your fighting before. However, you often fight the same people many times as there are only 30 people or so online. ( 11 / 10 )
Graphically, this game is decent. The graphics neither sparkle out and amaze you or scare you away. I would recommend looking at a few screenshots. ( 7.5 / 10 )
The music in this game is ambient. Creatures will give a growl or yelp when ordered to do something. Henchmen are quite annoying, with the ''The lab is under attack boss!'' whenever an enemy unit invades your base. ( 7.5 / 10 )
Total
32 / 50 = 8 / 10 ( 8 out of ten )
Buy or rent?: Well obviously you cant really rent a computer game. Only buy this game if you can play it online. If not, play the demo. If you play online, look around because I will probably be there under the name of Liquid or Dr_Liquid.
