Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Review by DeathX87
"One of the best games on PC"
Review by DeathX87.
Jedi Outcast revolutionizes online action gaming as I see it. There is really nothing wrong that I can find in this game. The thing is, you best have a decent video card, or you wont receive the full experience of this classic. If you are even thinking about buying this game, read this review first.
Gameplay-10/10- This is probably where the game shines. Lucasarts and Raven did an excellent job of touching up the saber combat. It is very addictive when you first get that saber -_-. Also, The game is very fast paced, combining the elements of saber combat, and infiltration all in one. Like I said before, this game shines, but only when its running fast. And the best thing about this game is the hidden code for disembodiment. Who doesnt love to see a stormtrooper's head fly off? This game is fast paced, and the saber combat adds an excellent touch to it no other game can mirror, not even Unreal Tournament.
Graphics-9/10- These are some nice, detailed, realistic
graphics. ONE MAJOR THING-To have optimal graphics on this game you would need a 1600-1200 monitor. Every other setting seems blurry below that. The detail is so nice in this game, I thought they were better than Playstation 2 graphics at times. Nice lighting effects and shadows really help to make the quality stand out. When sabers clash you see the sparks, and you can even see the wrinkles on the characters clothing! It looks nice for a computer game. There is moderate clipping in this game, but when I say moderate it occurs often, but you often times dont even notice. The level detail is well though out, and the character designs are very cool. This is a great looking game on PC.
Controls-9/10- This is probably the easiest control scheme i have seen. Obviously because you can customize all the controls. The game requires true skill with your controls, and a variety of saber moves can be performed. You can jump of walls, wall walk. Pretty nice I'd say.
Sound-10/10- Nothing much to say here. The orchestral pieces are very nice. And you cant forget watching the opening screen with the scrolling letters. The sound helps to detail the environments nicely. Example, in the swamp, you can actually feel like you are there with the bullfrogs. wading in the water. The sound effects add a great deal of detail as well. the footsteps on floors, blaster pistols, lightsabers, it just all fits in.
Multiplayer-10/10- This was my first online multiplayer game that I have ever played. And to be honest, I dont think any other game can compare with Jedi Outcast's multiplayer gaming. The modes are fun filled, and you will be up for hours on end when you are hooked. One bad thing is though, you better not lag, it hurts the gameplay greatly, this applies to what I said before. The modes are as follows-Free for All, Team Free for All, Duel, Capture the Flag, Capture the Ysalimari, and Holocron. With even more mods making more game modes i.e Hydroball. Duel is great if you want to show off your skills, but at times others can be tough. Free for All is great for chatting or killing. You can take it easy or go all out. This is one great multiplayer, and its fun level overshadows that of its Singleplayer. And for a little secret, you can get dual sabers, two sabers, and even two dual sabers!
Replay-8/10- You really cant find anything the second time around, but the game is so addictive that it wont matter.
Final Conclusion- If you are even slightly interested in Star Wars, this game will seem awesome to you. If you are a Star Wars Fanatic like me, it will consume your life. I WILL STATE ONE POINT. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS GAME- GET THE PC VERSION! IT HAS THE BEST MULTIPLAYER IN THE WORLD. XBOX and GameCube have improved graphics, but it doesnt have the online multiplayer greatness that made this game popular. But if you arent thinking about multiplayer and want it on XBOX and GameCube, RENT IT! The game is moderately long. But its not Final Fantasy long. Thank you for your time. Have fun winning!
