Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now

Review by DeMoN DARREN

"Simply one of the greatest games created"

Carmageddon was a i sort of 2D/3D racing/killing/destruction derby game based on the odd movie ''The Death Race 2000''. Its was a good game but wasn't too great in my opinion. Now, in 1998 the sequel came out, Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypes Now. As the title say, its going to Be one crazy game and ride... So, down to the game.

The basic game story is that its a post nuclear world and there are zombies walking the world, they don't harm you though don't worry, they are ''toys''. With no rules or laws people decided to set up races guess, story line doesn't matter. So you can do one of three things to win a race; 1. Go through the checkpoints (normal rcaing) 2. Destory all other cars or 3. Kill all zombies (just a side thingy)

Graphics - 10/10
For a game of 1998, (the time of the Quake 3 and Half-Life release) these graphics are quite something. With any kind of ok PC you can get top notch 1998 graphics which are better then your average 1998 game. The draw distance is the one thing that lets it down abit. Apart from that the cars and other ''things'' you race against look bold, big and has the detail where it needs it.

The cars range from your average spiked sports car to a WWII plane and to mini-monster truck with a rotating spike on the front. The guys driving the cars don't look too bad either. A huge and AMAZING part of the game is the cars falling apart. Bits of the cars like their doors or their fronts will fall off and will react with the environmet; see doors slide down a hill and have a car run the bits over or flip on them.

The zombies that walk around and get run over and when you get hit they go ''rag doll'', same kinda thing as UT 2003 and Hitman series. They hit the ground and their limbs flip around and they dismember and hit other cars and objects in the world and react accordingly.

THIS IS GOOD STUFF, AMAZING FOR 1998!

Gameplay - 10/10
All the car react differently and are driven differently and all this with very smooth graphics and in a great world with great physics. The pick ups in the game go from Stupid heads for zombies to a mutant tail thingy (actual name). These make the game AMAZING!

One good thingy that is in there is the replay mode. In here you can stop the game at ANY game in the game and go to manual g#camera and zoom around the world at any place in time and see what the other cars are doing. You can replay those great stunts, see the way you wasted that last opponent again or see a zombie death in slo-mo with the zombie's arms flying around and landing on the floor.

Network play means no internet play, BUT, the LAN is AMAZING!!! Annoying that its only LAN, but fun.

Oh yeah, the worlds you race in go from a Fairground to a ski resort with boulders you can push and let roll onto enemies or zombies or just for fun!

Sound - 8/10
Soundtrack from Iron Maiden that runs very well in the backround and zombies scream and shout and you can hear the CRUSH of the crashes!

Lifespan - 9/10
Community is big and happy, and you can download nice new killing machines onto your game just like that, same with maps! And the game is big with 30 races and 10 missions! WITH HUGE REPLAY VALUES!!!

Now the game is on budget you can get the game for around £5/$5! BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!!
