Battlefield 1942

Review by AceFrehley03

"A great game, but it gets too old too fast..."

GAME PLAY (7/10)
Not perfect, not crappy. This game truly depends on the player and what tastes they have. To me, I liked the game because of how you could perfect one thing, and chose one thing to be perfect at. Some people enjoy games where you can rack up a million different guns and side arms, and this game is definitely not for you if that's what you like. You get up to six things. A primary weapons, a side arm, grenades, and some other things depending on your class. While it does have a single player, it's not the strong point of this game because bots act like they were dropped on their head as children. It's hard to explain, if you play you will see. Multiplayer = wow. This is when you can let your true skill all hang out. With a total of over 32 players on line at once (I THINK it goes up to 64) it can get very hectic and very, very fun. Throw in a mix of tanks, turrets, boats, planes, and machine guns, you'll be stuck. I give it a 7 out of 10 because single player is really only so-so, not much above average.

STORY (???/10)
Did you think WWII had a good story line? That's really all there is to be said on this. I give the story a big fat you can go find out yourself.

GRAPHICS (8/10)
Also not the strongest point in this game, the graphics are definitely livable. They remind me of Starseige: Tribes for some reason, only with a super detailed and realistic element about them. Your computer has to be extremely powerful to play at full settings, so to be honest, I can't say how they are on maximum settings. I give graphics an 9 out of 10 because they're good, but not great.

CONTROL (8/10)
This subject really depends on what you're doing. There are realistic elements such as recoil and inaccuracy. For people the controls are fine, you have the ability to do what you want. Tanks are simple enough to control, as are boats, but planes aren't. You definitely need a joystick for planes in order to be of any effectiveness... which I'm still not. If you have a joystick, you'll be fine. If not.. get one when you get the game, or don't fly period. This gets an 8 out of 10 because it can get so awkward at times.

SOUND (10/10)
My favorite part of this game, the sounds seem awesome, especially at hectic times. Machine guns sound somewhat close to what they did back then, as do planes and tanks. Once you get in an extremely tense battle with 20 people, 3 tanks, 5 machine guns, 2 boats, 2 tanks, and a couple of bombs flying around, it truly does sound like a battlefield. Perfect 10 out of 10 on this part.

REPLAY VALUE (8)
Again, depends on the player. This game can get old if you do nothing but play it for 2 weeks on end. Just don't play it too often, and you're fine.

BUY OR RENT?
Can you rent computer games? Even if you can, buy this one.
