Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Review by TrueOgre999
"Doesn't have the thrilling action of the movies, but it's great nevertheless."
This game is one of the best Lucasarts games ever created, which is saying a lot because Lucasarts are awesome developers. The name Indiana Jones is somewhat misleading: When you first see it, you expect it to be an action game. However, it isn't one. The game requires a lot more thinking than action, which is still fitting for Indiana Jones.
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics here are pretty simple. Anybody that's played any of the old Escape from Monkey Island games will recognize the graphics, because Fate of Atlantis was made from the exact same game engine. This is an old game, so the graphics will obviously look dated, but the graphics don't really matter that much in this game.
Controls: 9/10
No problems here. The game is mostly pointing and clicking, even during the fighting scenes. There are hotkeys, but you don't need them. Anybody that can use a PC can control this game without any problems.
Sound: 8/10
The music is MIDI, but it's MIDI done quite well. The sound effects, however, are somewhat lacking. The voices, though they are only on the CD version of the game, are done quite well. Drop the rating down to a 7/10 if you have the older floppy disk version.
Story: 10/10
The story is this game can be described in one word: EXCELLENT. It is on par with the movies themselves. I don't want to reveal too much, but the story is Indiana Jones and his partner Sophia Hapgood finding clues to Atlantis' location and searching for it.
Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay in The Fate of Atlantis is mostly a thinking man's game. The game is mostly puzzles and talking to people to try and convince them to give you something or to do something for you or to tell you something. There is the occasional fight scene, which is surprisingly an effective change of pace even if it is just clicking over and over again. However, it all works out great.
Replay Value: 10/10
There is plenty of it in this game. This game can be played three ways: Alone, with Sophia, or an ''action'' way done alone. Even after you've completed all three, you'll come back two years later to play it again and experience the nostalgia.
Overall: 9/10
Try to find this game if:
-You're tired of all the action games that are popular now and want a game that makes you think.
-You like Escape from Monkey Island games.
-You're of fan of newer games like Shenmue.
