Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

Review by AMorozin

"A New Orleans writer investigating voodoo murders soon finds out this is not something to mess with"

-I always wanted Sins of the Fathers. For about two years by now. But I finally received the game for free in the mail. That is what you get for joining InterAction Plus! Anyway I loved this game so much. But the sound was not working so I couldn't appreciate the voices. When the voices finally turned on I was so excited. Then I heard Gabriel's voice. Jeez that makes me sick. Oh well Grace has a cool sarcastic chick voice. Everyone else has cool voices. Except Gabriel. Oh well I survived the whole game and listened to his voice the whole time. I LOVE this game! All of the games I write reviews for I love. Except Final Fantasy Tactics. Don't get me started with that one!

-The game is difficult because of some of the puzzles. they can be quite challenging sometimes. But that is all of the fun.

-Sins of the Fathers has a lot of humor. Jane Jenson has humor also. She made the game. She made the game have humor. That is all.

-The game control in Sins of the Fathers is very easy. That is good. But the recorder device thing has really no point in this game. But it is useful to people with bad memory. Like my dad!

-The jokes, comments, and strange and unique puzzles make Sins of the Fathers very fun.

-The story is great! You'd expect it! It is from the great writer, Jane Jenson. I don't know what she did but she was in the staff of the movie "Jim Henson's Labyrinth". Sorry I copied this from the other review but i agree with this so much!

The Story:

A writer named Gabriel Knight who owns a very unpopular "rare" books shop is investigating a Voodoo Murders case for the book he is writing. The book is called "The Voodoo Murders". Quite convenient. Gabriel Knight finds out that he has a secret German family. The Ritters. The Ritters own a castle in a town called Rittersburg. When Gabriel calls up his uncle, Wolfgang Ritter he finds out he is to be the next Shattenjager which means "Shadow Hunter". Shadow Hunters hunt evil spirits, demons, werewolves, vampires, etcetala, etcetala, etcetala. Gabriel Knight must find out the people behind the murders, find out where the Talisman, the Ritter family's symbol and true power is, and stop the madness! Can this young, rude, sinful young writer complete the task as a true Shattenjager?

-The game is designed very well, indeed. You got your easy-to-use map, your voice recorder device thing for the people with bad memories, and great puzzles that are just gee golly fun!

-The graphics are acceptable. It's just kind of dumb that they used comic book looks sometimes in the game. But pretty good entertaining movies.

-The sounds are good because there are voices. The bad thing about the sounds is that Gabriel's voice. But everybody else's voice is just fine and dandy. That British guy from Congo at least did a good job as the British butler's voice. Never let that guy try to sound American! Jeez. The really sad part is that Jane Jenson is allowing him to be Gabriel again in Gabriel Knight III: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned! (Leave me alone it is what the game is called!)

-The music in Sins of the Fathers I would have to say is better than the music in The Beast Within. It just has some really nice tunes! Ooh yeeah!

Pros:
Terrific story! This game is also an available hard cover novel!
I looove that Gabriel Knight theme!
Good characters always make a good story. And in the book you can't hear Gabriel's voice. Cons:
I HATE Gabriel's voice!

NOTE: If you don't have Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers OR Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within then go out and buy that value pack which also includes the Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers hard cover novel! By the way don't get this game if you don't like the typical Sierra adventure games. But I do! And if you don't like games get the books. There is also a Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within novel but I don't know where. I think you can order it at the Gabriel Knight site at sierra.com or find help on it at gamefaqs.com or gamesages.com
