The Curse of Monkey Island
Review by Zita
"Yes, it may be tough with all the thinking, but the humor makes it worth the effort."
Plot-10/10
The plot is what makes this game the funniest, and most unpredictable game around. With the bizarre ending of ''The Secret of Monkey Island 2'' I had no clue what they were going to do to get Guybrush on with his adventures, but it was accomplished! And quite wittingly I must say. Everything that Guybrush does has serious repercussions, so unbelievable, that you will sit in your computer chair with your mouth open. Either from the sheer stupidity of the situation or the hilarious qualities. There is no way this could be anything but ten.
Graphics-9/10
I must admit that at first glance, Guybrush made me turn my face in disgust. How could Guybrush be changed so drastically from the appearance that I have come to know and love? After about an hour of playing this game, I decided that, ya know, he really isn't that bad. I have now come to except his appearance. The backgrounds in this game are the perfect touch. Beautifully cartoonish while retaining some realistic properties. All the old characters (except perhaps Guybrush) translated well into this new style.
Sound-9/10
As always, the music is superb. I just love that opening theme. I was really ecstatic that all the characters finally have voices, and I must say that all the voices were well picked. The only one that slightly annoyed me was Stan's. A little to low for my liking, but there we are. The sound affects didn't get in the way, a good thing, they added just the right touch needed to enhance game play. The only thing that really made me mad is whenever I tried to use an object with another object, Guybrush would tell me that I couldn't use this with that. I was REALLY annoying.
Controls-8/10
At first I had no clue what I was doing. But once I figured out the coin system involved with using objects I thought that this game had much easier controls then the previous two. I also found out that if you double click on a door that you want to go into, you don't have to wait for Guybrush to walk REALLY slow. But otherwise there is no way around his slow walk. Grrrrrrr...
Replay Value-6/10
This game has two different settings, which means twice the fun! Well, sort of. It toke me awhile to decide to go through the whole game again at the higher difficulty level, I was to pained by Guybrush's slow walk. But hey, It is still replay value, but after about to times, you have to wait for about two years to play again.
Overall-8.4/10
Despite Guybrush's slow walk and the fact that the puzzles make you think a lot this is a superb game, one of my favorites!
