Star Wars TIE Fighter: Collector's CD-ROM
Review by Jonnydingo
"The ultimate battle of evil versus good!"
Star Wars: Tie Fighter is not the flashiest nor the newest game on the market, however it is definitely one of the greatest games I have ever played, and I guarantee ANY Star Wars fan will be in love with this game instantly.
Graphics, 7/10: For a game nearly 10 years old, this game's graphics pack quite a punch. A lot of the space craft look quite real and interactive. I do think they could of done a better job on the overall detail of the bigger spaceships however.
Sound, 10/10: Simply amazing. The sounds in this game come straight out of the movies. With crisp digital sound and great dialogue, it's a ten. You get to hear people ordering you around during your missions.
Control, 7/10: If you have a controller it's more like a 9, but if you have to use a mouse or joystick it's more like a 7. Steering and using the radar can be bit of a pin sometimes but you'll get used to it. Weaving to get away from enemy craft is quite difficult to get used to, but that just adds to the challenge, in my opinion.
Story, 9/10: You get to be a pilot working for the Empire! Why is that cool? Because you get to be the bad guy! Have fun doing missions that involve destroying rebels and friends of the rebels as well as Imperial traitors. With nearly one hundred missions you'll be on the edge of your seat during each exciting one.
Bells and Whistles, 8/10: With a variety of ships to pilot and several combinations of warheads including, missiles, torpedoes, space bombs and even rockets to arm yourself with, there are countless ways to decide the outcome of a mission.
Replay Value, 9/10: After you beat this game once, you'll definitely want to play it again on a different difficulty, and to try to earn a better score. It's always more fulfilling to get a better score because the higher your score the better your rank. Can you earn the highest rank in the Imperial Navy?
Difficulty, Varies: Though you get to choose from easy, medium and hard, I found this game hard on easy! It's definitely a game for the experienced gamer.
Final Note: Though it's a 9 year old game, don't be turned off. It's a breath taking game that'll even excite the pickiest gamer. Don't delay, hunt down a copy, now!
