Day of Defeat

"One of the better Half-Life MODS..."

GAME PLAY 9/10
The game play in Day of Defeat (or DoD) is some of the best around. The objective is simple: Capture all the flags, or have the most flags before the map ends. Sounds easy right? Well, its easier said than done. You will encounter tons of enemy's trying to gun you down. Everything from snipers to machine gunners.

REALISM 9/10
One or two bullets usually kills, just like real life. If you don't die but did get shot then you must bandage yourself to stop you from bleeding to death. You also have a fatigue meter, which makes you walk slower or run faster depending on what you have done. Also the guns have realistic recoil. The grenades are also realistic, if it blows up next to you, you die. The sounds are also realistic. The only thing that is not realistic is falling. You can take quite a large fall and barley get hurt. For example i jumped from a 2 story building and i only lost about 1/3 of my health.

GRAPHICS 9/10
You can only go so far with Half-Life, and this stretches its' graphics capability almost to the limit. Its second best only to the mod Natural Selection. Top Notch if you ask me.

CONTROLS 9/10
For the most part everything works out fine. They are fully customizable. But the problem is that sometimes the controls don't do what they are supposed to do. Sometimes i will press the crawl button and i won't start to crawl. This might just be for me but if it isn't thats a serious flaw.

Sound 10/10
All the sounds are great. The guns sound realistic. The reloads sound realistic. Everything is great. Even the radio commands sound great. No complaints here.

MAPS 10/10
The maps are designed great. The locations and textures fit in perfectly. Also anyone can make a map (with a little practice and the right programs) so new maps are always on the rise. You can do everything from beach wars to city fights, to forest shoot outs. Also since people can make custom maps the fighting environment is almost endless.

OVERALL 9/10
Over all it is a great MOD packed full of fun. The graphics are top notch for a MOD and controls are good. And there are tons of servers to play it on. Almost no complaints on this game. I recommend everyone to play this game, especially the WWII buffs. This is one of the best MOD's i ever played, heck its even better than some stand alone games.
