Quest For Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero

Review by AMorozin

"You must prove yourself a hero by saving the land Spielburg from curses and defeat the local brigands and return people to their homeland."

-I first played Quest for Glory I: So You Want to Be a Hero? when I got the Quest for Glory Anthology and of course I played the remake version first. I beat it very fastly with both versions. I like the game but of course I liked the remake version better.

-Quest for Glory I got the award "Adventure game of the Year" for one main reason. A really good story! Out of all of the Quest for Glories this has one of the best stories out of all of them! A man has just graduated from the Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School and wants to become a Hero. The man just barely escapes an avalanche from the mountain and enters a land named Spielburg. He must save the local Baron's son and daughter, ward off an evil ogress named Baba Yaga, and defeat the local brigands and return the stolen goods. One of the stolen goods is a magical carpet that can return two Katta people and a merchant gone poor to their homeland, Shapeir. It is up to this man to fulfill a prophecy "Comes a Hero from the East, Free the man from in the beast, Bring the child from out the band, Drive the curser from the land". Can this man become the hero he wants to be?

-Quest for Glory I can be very difficult at times. I am a pro at these games and I am still stuck as the Magic User in this game. Don't worry though I am sure I will release a nice little FAQ/Walkthrough for this game also.

-The sounds in both versions are not that great but the remake has slightly better sounds. But what does sounds matter?

-Although the original version has good humor the remake has much more jokes and silly clowns and such. I like when the dad from the "Dinosaurs" sitcom comes storming down the dirt path.

-You will both versions very, very fun indeed! But I am sure you will find the remake more fun but believe me both versions are fun.

-Both versions of Quest for Glory I are designed very, very well indeed!

-There is nothing special about the graphics in the original version but the graphics in the remake are acceptable.

Sounds - 4, 7.5 (remake)
Fun - 7
Humor - 7, 8.5 (remake)
Game Control - 7.5, 9 (remake)
Music - 6.5, 7 (remake)
Story - 10
Graphics - 5, 7 (remake)
Game Design - 8.5, 9 (remake)

Pros:
The first Quest for Glory!
There is a remake!
The remake has nice graphics and nice sound!
Cons:
If it weren't for Milton Bradley Quest for Glory could have been called "Hero's Quest".
That would go along greatly with the Sierra adventure team!
