SimCity 3000
Review by aznStaRBoY
"Truly a very fun game!"
I havent ever played Simcity 2000, but this game made me not want to play any other sim city game. Nothing can get much better. It is perhaps the best simulation game that I have ever seen. The buildings look completely realistic and the music really got me involved. WHen i first installed this game, I played it until 12 it was so fun.
Gameplay:10/10
The gameplay is nearly perfect. I've put close to 100 hours to this game already, and to this date, i've found only minor flaws. You basically build a city and decide where to place zones, power plants, water structures, and garbage disposal plants. But its not nearly as simple as it seems. There are a choice of around 10 power plants, many ways to dispose garbage, and many ways to produce water. For the power plants alone, you can choose a variety of plants ranging from small inexpensive ones to elaborately expensive ones that generate enormous amounts of power
ex: coal, natural gas, nuclear, windmill, etc, and each has at its own advantages. The power plants all must be placed strategically. For example, if you place a coal power plant near an area you designated as residential, the buildings in that area will degrade as the sim civilians move out. However, dirty power plants can be placed in industrial areas with low effects. Or you can simply make a nuclear plant, consuming a large anount of cash, but creating huge amounts of cheap power. The disadvantage to this is that if the plant explodes, you will have a large area on the map uninhabitable. To make things even more complicated, you have to place roads, subways, bus stops, and provide schools, hospitals and parks for your sims, and have firefighters and police guard your city while you work on an appropiate budget to balance expenses with tax (yes you can raise the tax). All roads, police and other services require a constant cash flow.
Also, you can make certain deals with neighboring cities. YOu can agree with them to take your garbage for a certain cash amount, agree to pay to get power (etc, etc, etc). Interacting with the civilians of the city is also done, and they will, propose many ordinances that you can accept ot reject.
Overall, managing the city is never boring. There are always ways to improve your city.
And another thing. You can place various landmarks, such as the World Trade Centers or Empire State building! It was so fun!
Graphics:9/10The graphics were decent. The city buildings look complex, varied, and authenic. Landmakrs looked true (take the World Trade Centers for example). If you zoom enougn, you can even make out cars moving on the roads and civilians walking. Each zone of the city (ex. residential, commercial) will have a distinct look to it, and highly reflects the true world cities.
Sound: 8/10
Also a good aspect (although weakens the game a little, considering how good everything else was). The music remained same throughout, but it is well done. Otherwise, you can clearly hear many things going on in the city, such as police sirens, the sound of the casino, if you decide to accept an offer and build one (this was very nice, reminded me of Las Vegas), and the sound of the power plants (each has a distinct sound to it when you click it).
Value:10/10
Definitely worth having. There are so many different types of cities you can build, and you can always make your city more stylish and unique. Though there is no multiplayer, the sheer number of things you can do is astounding.
Tilt:10/10
How can I not like this game with everything so well done? I really enjoyed building cities of my own and looking at the already built cities made by the sim city crew. Sweet!
