Medal of Honor Allied Assault: Spearhead
Review by cho it up
"A great game with a mediocore expansion."
Medal of Honor Allied Assault is one of the best FPS out there. People demanded more, and EA gave it to us. Presenting Medal of Honor Allied Assault Spearhead! The game is still during WW2 with added missions with more different ways to play.
Graphics 9/10
The graphics are the same, run on the same Quake 3 endings. I do not particularly see an improvement but the graphics are still amazing. Still bright scenery, detailed faces, etc.
Sound 9/10
The sound at some places were great, if not better than MOHAA. Improved gun sounds, more footsteps, and very nice voice lines. The only thing which was bad was that sometimes you couldn't hear the sound of a gun shooting, such as in different single player missions.
Gameplay 8/10
The game is better in some places and worse in more places. Now you can shoot flak cannons, use tanks, use a grenade launcher, and much more. New weapons, such as the G43. Two more new allied squadrons, the British and the Russians. Each come with new rifles, two new sniper rifles, two new sub machine guns and much more(shottie grenade launcher). The sad thing is that they took out the Kar 98 Axis Sniper Rifle, which was a great sniper rifle. One more note, Allied teams are Russians, British and US while Axis are still just Germans. One thing that really annoys me is that the hole pattern for bullets has been thrown out the window so aiming is like trying to aim in a new game.
Fun Factor 7/10
This is where the game lacks a bit. The multiplayer has an added way to play, called Tug or War, which is basically a bigger objective match with more and different objectives for each team. the multiplayer however is very choppy because of the big maps and some glitches, so playing online is alright if you can stand choppiness. They still did not add bots which was very disappointing, but a SDK was released for the game which allows you to play with bots. The new features should be fun for awhile but are just boring after a while.
Replayability 6/10
This game has potential to be very fun, if the bugs and choppiness were gone. The main problem is why EA decided to change the aiming patterns for old guns, making veterans at the game mad and as good as people who have just started to play the game.
Overall 7/10
This game is a very good expansion, with some flaws. The new weapons are great, but get old quick. The thing that ruins this game is how much memory it eats, and the frame rate will drop by about 20 FPS compared to MOHAA. Online play is very choppy at times, but still enjoyable. The missions are very good as well.
Buy or Rent?
If you are a true hardcore fan of MOHAA, I suggest you buy it. If not, maybe rent it and decide for yourself.
