King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

Review by Daddy-O

"A journey that starts in The Land of the Green Isles, but goes beyond imagination"

The King's Quest series has always been a favorite among many gamers. King's Quest- Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow is the 6th in the series. You play Alexander, son of King Graham. After spotting the beautiful Casima (who you may remember from king's quest 5) in your magic mirror, you realize she is in danger. You vow to find her but dont know where to look, all you can do is follow the stars. After days and nights of sailing you hit a trecherous thunderstorm and your ship sinks, washing you up shore. This is where your journey begins. With your only possesion- your royal insignia ring, you must find your way back to the land of Daventry.

So how does King's Quest 6 mesure up? Graphics wise it is light years ahead of all the other King's Quest's. Yet doesn't have the flare of the newer graphic adventures. There are five isles in all and each one is unique in its own way. The FMV sequence in the beginning is a nice touch too.

The sound in KQ6 is very good as well. The voices are above average, the music is okay too. There are also ambient sounds scattered around the isles.

But where this game really excels is it's puzzles. The range in difficulty, some easy, some mind numbing. Ultimately there are two paths you can take. Each altering the games ending slightly. It is recommended that you play this game without a guide. The reward of finishing a puzzle you spent months trying to figure out is incredible.

Overall this is one of Roberta Williams greatest adventures yet. If your looking for a challenging and entertaining game then I definately recommend KQ6, and all other games in the King's Quest series.
