Enter the Matrix
Review by CoZO
"Enter The Matrix – Something that will take you quickly to heaven"
Written by the famous Wachowski (I had to check the name twice) brothers. Fast, action packed, gun blazing action with real FMV’s form the movie, Matrix – Reloaded. Is it good, oh yeah.
Story.
Based on the Matrix trilogy, you will not be introduced to the world of Matrix. Instead you will be taken right down the rabbit hole into the twisted realms ‘of the real’. You need to see the first movie to understand what’s going on in this one, but then again; you need to watch the second movie to know on what the happenings are based on. And on the top of that, if you play this game before you watch the movie, you will be spoiled in the most evil way ever; you will know some details, but not the whole plot, evil I say evil.
Gameplay.
You get to choose between Ghost and Niobe. A male gun ho man and a female martial arts expert (who, on top of that has a serious death wish) that also likes to take care of the driving. The controls seem weak in the beginning, “where’s the running button?”, “how do I do that, how can I do this?”. While you play through the game the first time you will encounter series of problems with the controls. The bad thing with the hard to use controls is that you will probably want to drop the game back to the shelves, the good thing is that when you get the controls you will be able to run into a room with five SWAT members with mp5 blazing at you, and come out from that room carrying their guns without losing any health. The fighting changes from running around in circles trying to do something witty into the outmost beautiful ballee dancing I’ve ever seen.
Rip the guns off the guards, make insane flips, brake the laws of gravity and fight like there’s no tomorrow. You also get to drive cars and hovercrafts.
Graphics.
Damn… The graphics really aint’ any good. Sure, there’s no slowdown if you get the settings right. But there are too many bugs in this game; the patch will fix a few, but not all of them. But, if you have a hyper graphics card, the latest drivers, the best settings and graphics to the max you will watch some great eye candy. It’s nice, but due to the graphical bugs the score will be taken down.
Replay Ability.
I find myself running away from the agent over and over again. The game is extremely entertaining. And when you get into the Hacking mode you will be thrilled.
Hours of gameplay.
Took me 4 hours on my first run. 3 on the second. One hour to crack the Hacking mode, 2 hours on the secret training level. And an unreal amount of time re playing the level over and over again; just because it’s so cool.
Fun Factor.
It’s fun, extremely fun. I don’t know how it could actually change from disgust into an incredible entertaining game. Yes, the fun factor is huge. You also get to blast people in bullet time… Sweet…
Music.
There is this nice effect in this game that I first heard in the classic game Syphon Filter, when your character is walking alone there’s calm music on the background. But when there’s action all hell brakes loose on the beautiful symphony. This is a nice idea, but it doesn’t work in this game. You’re almost all the time under pressure, which means the music will swap between heavenly melodies to war beats, and it swaps often. The agent levels for example, you run away form them, this great music is boosting the feeling; then the agent disappears for like three seconds and the music swaps; imagine what it’s like.
Finalé
+
“Guns, lot’s of guns.” All handguns can be used akimbo style (two weapons used at the same time), and there are about 20 different weapons total. You don’t need more.
