Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire

Review by Blaze Extreme66

"Woosh! Bang bang bang! BOOM! heh I love this game!!!"

Yes, this game is oldie but a goodie! Any Star Wars fan has probably already played this game, if not on PC, then on Playstation, if not, then get out there and find a copy! You'll love it!

Story - 8/10
I really like the story of this game. You're a fairly new Rebel Alliance pilot, known throughout the entire game as 'Rookie One.' You start out in a strange area, where ships mysteriously disappear, and eventually you and your female friend are the key factors in the Galactic Civil war by trying to stop production of the infamous 'Phantom TIES,' Tie Fighters that have stealth capability. I can't tell you much more without spoiling the entire story, I've said too much already!

Graphics - 8/10
I personally like the graphics of this game a lot, and taking into consideration when this game came out, they were top notch. Now compared to today's standards, they're pretty blocky, but fluid enough for a great gaming experience. Between the levels, cut-scenes take place with actual people in actual enviorments, just like the movies, but a little less real, if you know what I mean. Oo, and when you're on a mission where you have wingmates, or where you're following someone on a speeder bike, you can see them flying back and fourth in front of you the entire time, which I think is neat.

Sound - 10/10
It seems like every Star Wars game gets a 10/10 on the sound review. lol What else do you expect? The game uses all the music written by the mastermind, John Williams, written for the movies themselves. The lasers make the 'spitting' noise right when they should, tie fighters have the proper 'boom' when they explode, and when you shoot stormtroopers, they appropriately scream 'AHHHH!'' when they fall into an endless abyss... Ahh... Truly blissful.

Gameplay - 7/10
Now, you really can't play this game without a joystick, but the good thing is, you can use any kind of joystick. All you need is the stick itself, a button to fire your lasers, and another button to hide behind walls and come back out whenever you're on a ground mission against troopers. The only real complaint that I have is that when you're flying in your X-Wing, B-Wing, or Y-Wing, you have no bombs or Proton Torps. But you'll live without them.

Difficulty - 10/10
Well... this topic really depends on what you have your difficulty set on. When you first play the game, certain missions will really give you a run for you money, even on easy mode, and as you go to normal and hard mode, you should be used to the controls enough to where it won't pose TOO much of a threat. But all in all, this game provides a good challenge.

Overall - 8/10
I really enjoy this game, and when I first got it, you couldn't tear me away from my computer long enough to even use the bathroom. lol This is your basic flying sim, but with the Star Wars twist, which makes it that much better, and it's cheap, so it won't cost you much to get out there and buy a copy to enjoy for a while. Well, there isn't much replayability to it, except for trying to beat it on hard, which will take you a while. Good luck with that... by the way. haha.

Buy or Rent?
This really depends on if you're a Star Wars fan or not. If you are, then you should definitely add this game to your collection, not questions asked. If you're not, then you should at leasr give this game a try, because it is a very good flight sim.
