Quest For Glory V: Dragon Fire
Review by wanderer35
"So good that it should have a sequel"
Graphics - This game's graphics were decent during its time.
Its is still very nice to me 5 years down the road. I was never a guy who believe that a game must have 3D graphics to look good. The characters were quite well drawn and animated. It still retain the look of the quest for glory series.(9/10)
Storyline - The storyline has improved in that it has become
more interesting and with more plot twists. Also it tries to include as many characters from the previous series in it. Fortunately they were able to do this very well. Nearly all of the major characters from the previous series are present here. There is even a chance for you to repay the kindness of people who have helped you in the past. There is also a chance for you to take revenge on some nasty soul who has done you harm in the past too. However the storyline has become more linear. In the past you could pretty much go about doing the various stuff in your own
time and the storyline would still fit correctly. (8/10)
Gameplay- The gameplay is a bit unbalanced depending on which character you choose. The thief is the most fun while the fighter is the most boring of the lot. I beat the game 4 times using all the various characters. The game also allows you to become a Paladin in this game. Even though in the past you can't become one unless you load your save game. The patch for the game actually solves some bugs but it also limits the game play in some ways. I won't say what it is here. But I will say that the patch is supposed to allow you to ''do something'' to someone who is living on a island that always turn the time to night. However without the patch you can actually do something to two persons. How is that for a really happy ending. I tried and I was always able to ''do something'' to 2 out of the 3 persons available. But the patch limits the number to one.Anyway this game actually has multiple endings, depending on what you did.
Anyway the game tries to become a bridge between the new school and the old school. It still has some of the puzzle elements of the old Quest for Glory series. However it also has plenty of arcade elements which involve the player clicking like a mad man so that his magic user can fire fireballs at the enemies. I thought the arcade elements were okay but had resulted in less emphasis on the storyline and puzzles.(9/10)
Sound Effects/Music
The game deserves a 10 for its music and sound effects. The music soundtrack was excellent and the Voice overs were excellent. Everyone sounded like themselves. My only complaint was that the hero never ever speaks.
Conclusion: This game was actually quite nice and interesting and fun to play. It may have become more linear but this also allows the story to have more twist. However this is the last game of the series and unlike other games where the last game was the worst, Quest for Glory V was actually the best game in the series. To conclude this is the last game in the series if you do not count the fan made ones.I do hope that one day there will be a Quest for Glory VI. But I guess I can only hope.
