Quest For Glory III: Wages of War
Review by wanderer35
"The weakest link of the series"
This has to be weakest link if you do not count Quest for Glory II. Quest for Glory II requires you to type the commands thus I did not included it here.
Storyline-6/10
The characters are quite boring and few compared to Quest for Glory I, IV and V. The storyline is kinda linear compared to the other Quest for Glory games. Wait a minute it is the most linear in storyline compared to the other quest for glory games. I might have appreaciate the storyline better if I have played Quest For Glory II but sadly the game didn' have a remake. Anyway the reason being that there are some characters in this game that actually came from II. Anyway the storyline here does have some unique features since its one of those few role playing games with a storyline that is related to African tribes and Egypt.
Sound Effects/Music-8/10
Well firstly it seems weird to play this game when it doesn't have voice overs. But anyway conversation seems lesser in this one. But the music is actually quite good and it really fits the environment.
Graphics-8/10
I actually love the background and scenes of the city. It really looked beautiful in the day and in the night. However this game is also the only one in the series to feature a world map. Sadly the world map just made things looked worst off.
Gameplay-6/10
Firstly Quest for glory III is also the Quest for Glory with the worst combat system. It looks terrible and is also kinda bad when you fight. I must say that V has the best fighting system followed by IV and even the VGA version of Quest for Glory for I is better as well.Alas Quest for Glory III also has some other frustrating problems as well. Since there is a world map sometimes you will find yourself trying to walk about the map hoping to trigger the next thing that can advance the storyline.
Then there are also several bugs in this game that you really need to save your game frequently. Too often then not you will get error messages when you least expect them.
Lastly while the other series gave the thief too much bonus stuff this one penalises the thief that he has hardly much to do. Then there is also one of the most unforgiving bug when you play as the thief. I really hope this is a bug since it is very unforgiving to play such a lame trick. I gave my thief magic powers and guess what during one part of the game I wanted to steal an object and was supposed to steal it since I'm a thief. Instead I was forced into a ridiculous magic duel which I lost.I don't have most of the spells at that time since when I first played it I created a character from scratch instead of importing one from QFG I. It seems that the game assume that any guy who knows some magic spells is a magic user and he naturally wants to fight a magical duel. I had to restart my game and gave my thief zero magic.
Conclusion- Quest for Glory III has the weakest link in terms of storylines and gameplay. Its graphics is considered much better than I and II. This game is still relatively nice since its still a Quest for Glory game after all. But I basically played this one the second time just to create a powerful character that I would be able to use in IV and V.
