Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Review by SonicProject
"An awesome game, now if only Resident Evil 2 was ported to DOS/Windows..."
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for DOS/Windows comes from Capcom. I actually have been playing this for a long time (restarting it over and over again). It is one of my favorite PC games. The story involves Jill Valentine, the original survivor of Resident Evil who is faced with a problem: the infestation of zombies in Racoon City! As she goes through an ordeal of betrayal, sadness, and terror, she stumbles upon a creature called Nemesis. She is forced to flee and make her way out of Raccoon City or she may not get out at all. Now on to the review...
---------
Graphics: As with any PC game, graphics aren't perfect, but, they're great. Personally, I'd say that the models need a little work and the maps seem a bit too similar to RE3's predecessor, RE2. A little more variation would've been nice, but, then again we are talking about the same Racoon City.
---------
Gameplay: As with all video games, the most important aspect is gameplay. Overall, the gameplay was great. The problem with a PC game is that you have to either go out and get a gamepad/joystick or you have to use the keyboard. And, guess what. I didn't have the money for a gamepad or joystick. So, the controls turned out to be difficult to remember when you set them. As for the engine of the game itself, I had no trouble and found no bugs. However, some enemies are too fast to evade (ex: lickers) and get quite frustrating. But, that's nothing major. Gameplay was extended with the accompanying game, The Mercenaries. You earn money while you play the game to buy weapons for RE3. This adds a little replay value as well.
---------
Presentation: Not much to go on about here. The cutscenes and intro were great and so was the ability to choose your player's costume. However, the menus didn't look all that great and could've used a little more polish. Nothing special in this aspect, though.
---------
Music and Sound Effects: Meh, the music wasn't all too great. Some of the songs were great, but, some came from RE2. Not much variation, there. But, when it comes to sound effects, Capcom got the job done. There were quite a few variations of old sound effects and some new ones to boot.
---------
Overall: Overall, RE3 is an awesome game. It just needs a little work on the models, some more variation would've been great, and music needs a bit of improvement. But, still, this is a great game. Capcom should think about porting RE2 to PC. That is, of course, my favorite RE game. Oh well... *goes out and buys GameCube version of RE2* SP signing out!
