Battlefield 1942

Review by BigShowStoppa

"WOW....AMAZING GAME!"

Well, what can I say? I had long been looking into this game, and DICE, also known for making the famous and fun ''Midtown Madness'' series, brings in a modified version of the Unreal Engine. And if you thought that DICE wouldn't deliver in this game, boy were you wrong! Let's start with the basics.

Graphics:
The graphics look nice. There is usually a good FPS on this game while you play even on some of the lower video/graphic settings. The models of the characters themselves look really nice. Not to mention some of the facial expressions for different types of situations(shooting, being shot, etc.).

Vehicles:
The vehicles are beautifully crafted to the likeness of the real life vehicles. There are roughly 35 vehicles in the game, like the Sherman tank, and the Zero Japanese plane. The graphics are amazing for these models, and on most multi-player servers the vehicles run just as smooth as infantry. The planes sometimes get choppy while flying on some servers with over 100 ping. The tanks are awesome weapons, and the ships are probably the most beautifully crafted models in the whole game, in my opinion.

Weapons:
The weapons are nice. There are 5 classes in this game: Sniper, Assault, Anti-tank, Medic, and Engineer. The guns are fairly accurate, except the sniper rifle, which seems to add to the little realism there is in this game. All of the classes have their special factors. The only problem I have with the weapons is that when you reload, you ''throw down'' the clip and do not gain back the bullets you had. In other words, if you constantly reload in other First Person shooters after 3 rounds, learn to forget that, because if you reload like that you'll lose a good 17 rounds.

Levels: What can I say, they're levels. There's about 20 levels(I can't think of the exact number). You'll fight in 4 different theatres of battle: African, West Europe, East Europe, and Pacific. The levels are average, and each level has different vehicles to help you win the battle.

Game play: The levels are won by ''capturing points.'' Every time someone dies they lose a ''ticket.'' The team that runs out of tickets loses. If you are holding a certain amount of capture points, your enemies tickets will slowly decline. The game play is nicely put together. The fun thing is that you can get into a jeep, drive off, park, get into a plane, and then shoot down an enemy in a dog fight. From there you can bail out and land using a parachute, and get into a tank, taking out an enemy tank. The possibilities are endless. The factor helps make the game fun, even though it takes away from the realism.

The Bottom Line: This game is meant for multi-player! You can have up to 64 people in a server. The game is great, and is a great way to just enjoy all the things in WWII. If you are looking for a realistic game, this is NOT your game. Otherwise, if you don't care about realism, then GO BUY THIS GAME. For anyone just looking for a fun shooting game with vehicles, this game is a definite choice to add to your collection of games.

Updates: The 1.4 patch recently added in things like blood, and 2 new guns(the Russian and Japanese assault rifle).
