"Picture Tanks...Flying Around...Through Space..."

Homeworld is a computer game in which the main objective is to bring your people back to their home world as the name of the game says.

GRAPHICS---7/10

The graphics in Homeworld definitely aren't the best that I've seen on a computer game however they are quite good. You may not be able to differentiate most of the ships from each other on the battlefield just because most of the look near to the same except fro how many guns they have and little differences in the shape of the ships. The asteroids look like asteroids although they do have the occasional sharp edge, which will make you think that they aren't as real as they could be.

SOUND---7/10

The sound isn't the best either. Most of the time it's just a regular little hum and then the occasional voice of someone saying 'Ion Frigate Completed' in between the boring parts. The sound is real good in battles because you can hear all of the stuff, but the larger the battle the slower and slower the game gets until you can just walk away and come back with you're units in relatively the same place. In small sieges however the sounds nice, game fast which allows you to more or less feel like it is actually something fighting and killing each other out in front of you on your monitor.

UNITS---8/10

The only reason I gave this an 8 rather than a 10 is once again the problem with differentiating the ships, but the good part is that you can still tell which ones are yours just by the color schemes. In the game there is one mother ship, which is the ship that you are trying to protect while you go to your home world. There are ships for mining resources. And of course there are ships for attacking and otherwise destroying your enemies. Frigates, Super Capital Ships, and of course the Mother Ship can go through Hyper Space and warp where ever they want on the map if it is within the reach of the sensors.

GAME PLAY---8/10

The is a single player campaign, a skirmish mode, and internet play in Homeworld. I have never done the campaign or internet play because I haven't wanted to yet. But the skirmish mode is basically you against plenty of computer opponents battling it out. Trying to get as many units as possible the fastest is basically the key to winning when playing Homeworld.

REPLAY VALUE---8/10

The only replay value in Homeworld for me is basically the skirmish mode although there probably is a lot of replay value to be found out in the internet play. I don't believe that there would be a lot of replay value in the single player campaign as once you're done with it you are probably don with it for good.

OVERALL---8/10

Overall this game is plenty. The fun ends eventually if you get stuck but you'll probably find it again and then rediscover the fun in the game.
