Doom
Review by xXAHCXx
""Whats in the case?", the man asked. "Doom." The other man replied."
Graphics: 8/10
For its time, doom was graphically amazing. The way the muzzle flashed whenever you shot your pistol, or the blood that spattered whenever you shot a demon. Id aimed to make the doom experiance a good one, and they did. From the first episodes Hangar to the third episodes Dis, your taken along a insane ride to hell and back. It's graphic resolution is 300x200, making for a tad pixly experiance. The palette can also be a bit drab at times. But for all of dooms graphical downs, there are more graphical ups. Doom is a very colorful game, and I enjoyed playing it.
Sound: 10/10
The music is absolutely amazing. In order to truly appreciate it you must have a decent soundcard. I myelf have a soundblaster audigy, which makes dooms music sound simply amazing. The heavy metal guitars sound like heavy metal guitars, the strings sound like real live strings, the drums sound like someone is sitting next to me playing them. Not one peice sounded out of place when I played through doom. Bobby Prince outdid himself with the music. And the sounds? The shotgun blasts and the roar of a demon getting ready to tear your head off are nothing short of amazing.
Story: 7/10
Now this is where the game loses points is in its story.. Basically you are a marine, and your base recives a destress call about demons coming through a portal gate. you go to the base that the message came from, and everything has gone awry. everyone has turned into zombies, and these.. things from hell have overrun the base. You pick up a pistol in hopes of setting things right.
Gameplay: 10/10
The game plays like nothing I've played before. the smooth controls and the blast - and - go approach to the game easily make doom one of the most fun games i've ever played. the gameplay is flawless. you can shoot, strafe, open doors and run with ease. none of the buttons ever confused me at all. the levels are very straightforward, and I never found myself wandering aimlessly through any of the levels. this is where doom truly shines.
Overall: 10/10
I loved doom the first time I played it, and even on a newer computer, it still shines. pick up the collectors edition, its 20 bucks and comes with all the doom games that have come out (doom, doom 2, plutonia, tnt). you'll enjoy it.
