Streets of SimCity
Review by NTsui
"A Sim Game? NOT."
Aha! A Sim game made by Maxis! Has to be great! Educational fun! Huh? I don't THINK SO! Streets of SimCity is, well, a departure from the past Sims, to put it lightly. Actually, it bears no resemblance whatsoever to any of the past Sims, save SimCopter. You are basically a type of mercenary who goes around and blows the trash out of everything that gets in your way with your military-based weapon of choice: your car.
GRAPHICS: 7
They're a little better than normal, for a PC, but nothing outstanding here. The game runs nice and fast, plus it has some rather impressive draw distance, as long as your PC can handle it. All the explosions are nice, and nothing else really caught my eye.
SOUND: 8
OK, there's several styles of ''radio channels'' to choose from, ranging from country (BLEAH!!!) to heavy metal junk. My favorite is to turn off all the music and have nothing but the hilarious radio commercials running. I LOVE the radio ads! Oh, the sound FX are suited well enough to the game.
CONTROL: 7
They're tight, they respond well, and that's about it. As usual, better than normal but nothing outstanding.
REPLAY VALUE: 6
Besides the fact that you can make your own cities to drive in, this game offers almost nothing in the way of replay value. I'm telling you, it got old really fast. NEXT!
OVERALL: 6
Average game, average everything. If this were not a Sim game, it would have sold a lot less. The only thing for this title is the ''brand name'' pasted on the cover. Stay away unless you love wanton destruction.
((**Sigh**
since when have videogames come to mean mindless violence? I am tired of **boom boom bam blast the heck out of everything** type games. I have come to enjoy the less violent yet nonetheless fun games more. There are many excellent non-violent games out there, so go digging if your parents are strict in what you play. You'll find many gems.))
But if you must, you can always get Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8: Second Offense (for PSX, N64, or DC) instead, which are more up-to-date and offer more.
