Atomic Bomberman

""It's over, you can go outside and play now!""

I've liked Bomberman multiplayer games a very long time now, and here's a pc bomberman specialized in just the multiplayer section. It's a great LAN game, but it has many flaws that still prevents it from being a Counterstrike killer. This game is not very known, but it's sure as hell fun with it's fast, classic Bomberman gameplay, also with some added features, never seen in earlier Bomberman adventures!

Graphics 7/10

Well, this game had very good graphics for it's time, but still do I find it a little too basic. The bombermen are designed in a 3d'ish manner, while the stages are as flat as papers. But still quite decent layout, oh yes. It's not a graphical monster, but on the other hand, that just makes sure this thing runs full speed on your computer...

Sound 8/10

Sound is pretty good, the bomb sounds and the voices/taunts are really fun. The techno music is kinda trippy too. No real flaws in music nor in SFX. Hudson have put effort on this area and is one of the game's strongest points.

Controllers 10/10

Yeah baby! This is what the game is best at! Controllers! Choose between the good ol' keyboard or a joypad! And define the layouts yourself! Fast, responsive buttons appeal more to gameplay!

Gameplay 8/10

Man, tense gameplay when playing against other players within a LAN game, but the bots are pretty dumb when you finally master them. Most of the points come from the LAN benefits. Funny sayings and taunts allover the game! Go figure...

Game Value 5/10

Nope, there is only a multiplayer mode. This ain't no RPG. If you want a long game, look away from here... Pure multiplayer mayhem here... Counterstrike players, look here for something more different.

Replay Value 9/10

You can play this over and over again with either the bots, or in a local area network. Endless multiplayer fun!

Plot N/A

This is pure multiplayer, and despite it's a bomberman game, this one completely lacks plot. This doesn't affect score whatsoever...

To Rent Or To Buy?

I doubt anyone rents rather old games... Buy this if you go to LAN sessions often. It will prove to be a Counterstrike killer with it's fast, tight gameplay.

Final Verdict: Well, this game does prove that retro games can still be very fun, and this particular Bomberman game will knock you out when you play this in a LAN. The bots do leave persons a little disappointed, but it's a solid title, nonetheless.
