"One of the best games I have played for the PC"
Sacrifice is a extremly unique real-time strategy game developed by Shiny. In it, you take control of a wizard named Eldred who may ally with five diffrent gods to stop a powerful demon named Marduk. Now, on with the review.
Graphics - 10/10 Amazing. Simply amazing. These are some of the best graphics I have ever seen for the PC. I would say that they would be worthy of the ps2. The skies are just gorgous and the spells are awe inspiring! Just watch the spell ''volcano'' and you'll see what I mean. The colors are lush and vivid and each god has their own realm that represents their own personal moral standards. For example, Persephone's realm consists of vivid, green forestry, while Charnel's enviornment is barren and desolate. Well done.
Sounds - 8/10 The sounds and music were pretty good. But I have a few bones to pick. The music, while good, tends to be very low-key and during gameplay, you may tend to just tune it out altogether. You gotta LOVE the voice acting though. The gods are very well done especially. I particulary like Charnel's voice. The main character also articulates his spells in a baleful tone that sounds great. Each unit that you summon (see gameplay for more details) also has their own unique voice and it is fun to hear them all.
Gameplay - 10/10 Ah, now this is where the game shines. As Eldred, you may ally with any of the five gods to wage war on each other and pervail against the demon. Each god gives you diffrent spells and creatures to summon that aid you in battle. You summon creatures and cast spells through the use of mana. As your mana depletes though, you will have to regain it by standing near mana fountains or summoning small creatures called manahoars that channel mana directly to you. This is also the first game I have seen where you are immortal until your special alter is desecrated by another enemy wizard. Beware though, unless you desecrate your enemy's alter, he will keep coming back as well. The in-game tutorial should teach you everything you need to know.
Replay Value - 10/10 With internet play, a map editor, and tons of diffrent skirmesh modes. I can daresay that this game will keep you occupied for many months to come.
All and all, I suggest this game very strongly. I picked up mine at Fred Myer's bargin bin for $10 so you should be able to find it quite cheap as well.
