Battlefield 1942
Review by GamingWorld
"A great multiplayer experience"
Introduction:
Battlefield 1942 is a war/action game, for the PC. Here are the minimum computer specs to be able to play the game. However, if you want a fun time playing the game, I suggest you at least have double these specs.
Minimum Requirements:
PIII500MHz
128MB RAM
4xCD-ROM
32MB 3D accelerator
1.2GB free disk space
Those are the minimum Requirements, if you have 128 RAM, expect to sit there for about 10 minutes before the game loads. Once again, I suggest you have at least double those specs. If you do have a good connection, at least 256 RAM (512 is better) then you will have quite a fun time playing.
Gameplay 9/10
Okay, here is where the game shines. In-terms of gameplay I dont even know where to start. Let me start by saying that this game, Battlefield 1942, does not take a hardcore always playing videogames kind of person to play. The controls are very easy to learn, but it may take you a second or two to get used to them.
The game is very easy to learn, and like I said above, doesn’t take a hardcore person to play. And I can’t tell you how much fun it is just surviving that last fight
Where you have no bullets left, switch to your pistol and kill the person. There are alot of bugs, and sometimes the patches just make it worse. They will fix the old bugs, but bring in the new. Also, watch out for the 'Doodz and Noobz' and plane campers. They can really mess up your game, up until the point where you want to TK(Team kill) them. Also, you may get bad lag alot, but just deal with it. Also, new guns, planes, weapons, and tanks keep being added with every mod out there. If you buy this game, I suggest you download DC .4j, EoD, and FH. (Desert combat, Eve of Destruction, and Forgotten Hope.)
Weapons:
The weapons are very important. (Of course) There are 5 classes in the game you can play as, all who wield different weapons for battle. The Engineer wields TnT, a rifle, and mines. The Assult wields a Automatic gun, The medic wields a medical kit, and a sub-machine gun. The Anti-Tank wields a huge anti-tank weapon, for shooting tanks down in the back. And...(Sigh) The Scout who does not help his team at all..Well, most don't anyway. The Scout wields a sniper rifle, which is used to (of course) snipe. And Binoculars. Binoculars are used to call artillery. Of course, most Scouts never do so.
All classes are equip with a pistol, a knife, and grenades. Also, the weapons you wield will differ, depending on what side you are on. For example, the Assult class on Wake island will wield a BAR on the Allied side, while an assult on the axis side will wield a Type 99.
Vehicles:
These vehicles are also an important part of the game. There are planes, tanks, jeeps, ships, landing craft, jets, helicopters, and more. Vehicles, like weapons and levels, are also added when you download mods.
Levels:
Well, there are about over 22 and growing. There are 4 different theatres. African, West Europe, East Europe, and Pacific. Levels are added when you download mods for Battlefield 1942.
Expansions:
There are currently 2 expansions out. SWoWWII, and The Road to Roam. I suggest picking up both. Road to Roam is nearly dead, but still fun. SWoWWII(In short, Secret Weapons) Is not dead, and worth the buy. For both add new levels, vehicles, and weapons.
Story 5/10
Don't know what you really expect here, this is basically a FPS with no story, and a great multiplayer game. Don't pick this up for it's story, or single player. But DO pick it up for it's multiplayer.
Graphics 7/10
Don't expect any Doom 3 graphics here, these are a bit dated, but if you compare them to other games, these are quite good. The guns look nice, so do the tanks, and planes. Personally, I don't think this game has bad graphics at all.
Sound 6/10
Okay, so sometimes the bullets can sound like dart guns in a way, and sometimes
your sound might randomly go out, but other then those bugs, the sound is O.K.
The planes sound fine, so do the tanks, and jeeps. Not very realistic at times, but really, if your looking for extreme realism sound-wise then don’t pick this one up. Other then that, the sound is good.
Play Time/Replayability9/10
There isn't really replayability in this game..because you can't beat it. However, I consider replayability playing the same map over again, and because that is fun, I gave this one a nine out of ten.
Should I pick this up?
Yes. It is worth your time and money if you have an above-average PC. You can play this one for hours on end, and not get board at all. I'm totally serious. Extremely fun, and hours of gameplay.
