"The Average Sports Gamer's Opinion"
Wow...EA Sports has done it again with one of the best sports games ever seen on a PC. This game should be really rated a 11, easily one of the best games of the year.
FIFA 99 offers terrific gameplay, great control, and enough options to fill an entire soccer bag with. The game has many different options such as a friendly match (exhbition) golden goal ( first team to score _goals wins) tournament, league and custom leagues and custom cups, training, and a new feature...quick start. Quick start selcets two teams and you immediately play a game in about 30 seconds. But enough of what it is...let's see how it stands up to my scale:
What they have done right: FIFA 99 has terrific gameplay and control. The new traps, espically the chest traping feature really helps. Many different things one can do such as intentional fouls and through passes not to mention the over 15 moves I've seen you can do. The graphics are unmatched in comparsion to other soccer games. Really looks nice on a 3-d acclearator. FIFA 99 decided to put more effort on the european club teams than the international teams (unlike FIFA 98) This may be a drawback to some, but there is no World Cup this year so they should have put more emphasis on the International clubs. I swear there must be a million different combos of unifroms in this game. It's absolutely incredible. For this sole reason I would recommend this game to a fashion designer simply for the fun of mixing and matching the outfits. Of course FIFA 99 has every conceivable player on the planet on this game. There are so many htings that are right with this game but since the game is so great they often are overlooked.
What's wrong with the game: Where's the indoor arena? Unless it is a code or I am not seeing it there isn't one there. The indoor arena was one of the best features about FIFA 98. Unfortunately, it's not there. The announcers will get on your nerves real quick. Maybe it's their accents...I don't know. Chris Waddle's voice will test you the most of them all. Too bad there isnt MLS rosters in the game. That's really a shame, MLS rosters and clubs would have made this the ultimate game. Lastly, you cannot create players or teams...just edit them. I get the feeling the folks at EA Sports just plian didn't have room on those cd's to allow players to be created. It's not a real prob considering the fact you can just take over a brazilian league or portugese league. ( C'Mon how many players do u know in the portugese league?)
Final Word; The flaws in htis game are really minor compared to other games and the strengths of the game, espically the reality of it will hook soccer players of all levels.
