Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Review by Braben
"Featuring the most disgusting spit you’ll ever see and MUCH more!"
In this sequel, Gybrush has grown bigger (yet his brain seems as dim as always), he has a stupid beard and it seems he has finally become something next to a pirate. He has somehow earned a pile of gold (a pile of gold that it is not going to last for too long by the way) and with that he lands in Scabb Island, where pretends to start to search for The Big Whoop, which is said to be a legendary treasure, and that is only the beginning because as the title suggests the evil zombie-pirate LeChuck is going to be resurrected very soon.
Like in the first game, the plot may seem a bit clichéd even for the time the game was released, but you can bet your butt about this being one of the smartest stories you will ever see, because if someone knows how to mess everything up, that is Guybrush.
The gameplay is exactly the same from the previous Monkey Island, excepting for one thing, there aren’t any insult duels this time, this is A VERY BAD THING!!!, but fortunately even without one of the most amusing features of the first game, Monkey Island 2 is better than its predecessor, and it has a lot of new and wacky events that will make you forget about the duels.
Of course, together with the new characters, we will meet most of the bunch from the previous game, some of them have new jobs and appearances, but they are still as crazy as always, or maybe even more.
The graphics have been improved a bit, this time the backgrounds are more detailed, varied, and colorful. The music however, and even if the main theme is intact, is horrible, sometimes it gets really annoying, there isn’t that much music, but it can be a real pain sometimes, what a pity.
Oh!, and let us not forget about Monkey Island 2’s ending, one of those you will never forget, man, you will be laughing you butt for a very long time, take that for granted.
LeChuck’s revenge is one of the best sequels you will ever see, not only is better than its predecessor, and not only is one of the best graphic adventures of all time, it is one of the best games of all time.
