Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos - Yugi the Destiny
Review by MidgetSnowman
"Power of Chaos, the biggest YGO letdown ever"
Power of Chaos, the first time we had a PC game of Yu-gi-oh out to be played, the demo had everyone psyched for a potentially engrossing, high quality experience. We so got cheated.
Graphics: Pretty much the high point of the game, and what made it look so promising in the demo. perfectly done, high quality color card art, interesting animations, superb field drawing quality, it pretty much looks exactly how you would expect a card game simulation in this day and age to look, somewhere near perfect. On the other hand, all it is is static images on a static background.
7/10
Sound: Not too bad, not exactly the most amazing stuff in the world, but at least it sounds vaguely on the side of dramatic, and the sound effects are nice touches as well. Cant see what was so good about putting in random Yugi soundbites though.
7/10
Gameplay: here's where it crashes and burns. First off, you have a whole 155 cards to gain. /155/. thats basically parts of one and a half sets, at best. and to make matters worse, its not even decent cards, but Starter Deck Yugi, and Legend of Blue Eyes, mainly, sets that were 90% crap. Then theres the random popups of Yugi with ridiculous lines, the lack of a storyline, any other opponents but Yugi, an online or two player mode, or any real replay value once you've built a deck good enough to beat Yugi, and no rewards at all for bothering to finish this game, and you end up with a glorified trainer for beginners packaged as a videogame. To make it even worse, the system for gathering cards is horrible. You win one card every time you win (and only then), with equal chances of getting Exodia's head, or Basic Insect. No booster packs, no weekly card gifts, nothing. This means it could take ages to get every card, and you'll end up with 50 copies of one per deck cards far before you do get all of them.
1/10
Replayability: practically none. once you've gotten all the cards and beat Yugi 80,000 times for the heck of it, theres no new frontiers to explore, nothing worth going back to do again (unless you want to bother trying to get all the cards again..)
0/10
Online and or Multiplayer: There is no online or offline Multiplayer, which makes this game lose even more potential interest to any buyer. Who wants to play a computer all day every day?
0/10
AI: standard YGO fare. they'll attack like madmen at anything you put in defense, and fall into baited traps every time.
2/10
In short, Its a pretty , nice sounding, glorified, obviously badly planned newbie training simulation. Buy only if you're wanting the promo cards that badly, or simply have to have everything Yu-gi-oh out there.
