Neocron
Review by DuckAndCover
"The best mmorpg has come and it's better than the ones now or the ones that will come out in the future."
I originally wrote a review of this game that got at the bad presentation of the first two hours you play this game. After playing it a couple of days more, I've found out exactly why nobody plays this game or nobody has even heard of it. They do the same thing that other mmorpgs have done.
Gameplay[6]
Innovative. The marriage of action and role-playing in this game is strongly represented. Both aspects are represented very strongly and I am pleased by the results; however, they have basically done what other mmorpg's have done and that's have non-threatening looking enemies, make you ridiculously weak in the beginning, and the gameplay becomes very tedious. First of all the reach your avatar has is extraordinary. By the same token, enemies can do melee damage to you from a long distance. The levels seem scrunched together, and even though these are minor nit picks it just brings the whole presentation of the game down. It's basically the same rule here: You have to be uber powerful to do the cool stuff and have the cool weapons and be rich. It's a good game, but it could be a whole lot better, and the fact that there's not as many people playing this game is a plus as well as a minus.
Sound[10]
Excellent sound. No problems here. I've never heard a pistol sound so good before especially.
Graphics[8]
The graphics remind me of the first Deus Ex. I wouldn't be surprised if they borrowed some technology from reakktor.com.
Great job in combining the two genres of action and role playing. Little do they know, it's a hard pill to swallow, so they needed to have done something really spectacular to hook people in order to make the medicine go down easier. Whether that something lies in the level designs, character designs, or an innovative gameplay idea. Action and role playing can be achieved, but it's a very fine line to cross. You can't make the gameplay too tedious, but as far as mmorpgs go this one is better than all the others that have come out or will come out in the future simply because it has done what few people have tried to do and have made it work. This is what game companies should be doing is genre splicing to add more flavor and innovation to the stagnating quality of video games instead of adhereing to a strict formula. It could be better, but it's a solid game.
