MU Online

Review by ChaosTony

"Good Game For Those Of You With Any Free Time In Between Games....."

* Introduction - Many MMORPGs out today, are in Alpha or Beta testing phases, Mu Online is in it's Alpha Testing phase. Because of this, it's free, and has many problems usually associated with early MMORPGs.

* Gameplay - 9/10: Of course the most important part of any game is the gameplay. Mu Online is no exception. The simple point and click battle system is hard to get used to; Mainly because the game doesn't usually recognize your first click. This leads to multiple clicks in order to attack one person. Even though it has an auto-attack option, it rarely works. This wouldn't annoy me as much if it didn't take five clicks per attack. It also takes awhile to get to a new area - which is annoying in my opinion.

* Story - 5/10: As this is a MMORPG, the story is never it's strong point. Because it is in it's Alpha Testing phase, there is no story.

* Graphics/Sound - 9/10: The graphics in this game are perfect, with a Warcraft III - look to them. But the requirements are not too steep for those of you with low-end computers. When you equip new weapons or armor, you can see the difference. Because of the vast array of weapons and armor, you can give your character his own unique look. The sound is a low point, and the monster battle cries and player moans and groans can get old after awhile.

*Control - 7/10: The controls are clunky and take awhile to get used to. Not being able to customize the keyboard for items is a pain. Picking up items is a chore, as you need to hit spacebar multiple times to pick up one item. There is a mandatory delay between picking up items. So if there is a pile of items, they will be stolen by other players before you can pick them up.

*People - 7/10: This game suffers many of the problems associated with MMORPGs. Spammers, flamers, kill-stealers, and overall rude people. It is nearly impossible to form a good party as a beginner, and as a veteran it is almost as hard. One main problem with the party system is that there is no party-say. Meaning that if a member of your party is off screen, there is no way to communicate with them. So, when a party member dies, he is basically out of the group unless you happen to randomly *bump* into them later. And because of the enormous number of players on a server, unless they have completely unique attire, the chance of that is slim.

* Overall - 8/10: Overall, this game is good if you have any free time to play. So if you are in between paychecks, and need a good free game to keep you company, this game is for you.
