Tomb Raider III
Review by Braben
"More of the same a million times harder, stay away, seriously."
As Tomb Raider II, for an unknown reason, was such a enormous success, their developers, Core Designs, decided that it was time to take advantage to their lucky situation as quickly as possible, so they made Tomb Raider III, a game designed exclusively to make money, and as every game designed only to make money, it sucks, only that it doesn`t suck like a game that sucks normally does, this one is also insults you while you are playing, spits you in the face every time you try to play.
Plot:
I don`t know, I know that there is a plot, but like before it is just an excuse to visit new areas to look for more treasures, that is all.
Graphics (8/10):
Way better yes, and although we still have the same problems than in the second part (glitches and some other ugly graphics affects) everything is a lot more solid this time, specially the scenarios.
Music (1/10):
Huh!, where?, oh!, you say that when something is going to happen then there is a four seconds tune that warns you!, my goodness that is what I call a soundtrack man!, I am so exited about this that I can`t continue writing about it in this section, I am terribly sorry.
Gameplay (3/10):
Nothing has changed since Tomb Raider II, we will be stuck in messy and bloody hard labyrinths solving puzzles, avoiding traps, finding treasures, and dispatching enemies with the same controls, weapons, movements (ok, there are new movements, one or two, but nothing really important), items, and everything, there is nothing new, nothing, this is just like an expansion with new scenarios, better graphics, and a higher difficulty.
About the stages I have to admit that they have improved as they are better designed and make a little bit more sense, but that is all, they are still a mess because of their size and difficulty. If the previous game was hard, this one is so incredibly hard that Tomb Raider II was the easiest game of all time in comparison, beating this game without a map and a guide is an impossible task, there is no way to do that, and with help it is still a nearly impossible task. This time the scenarios, while better designed as I said before, are so huge that they become extremely confusing, with a lot more traps than before and puzzles and jumps that are just crazy.
Conclusion:
And that is as much as I am going to say about this garbage, anyway, above everything, Tomb Raider III is an atrocious game for one single reason, it is unplayable. If something that was already too hard gets a hundred times harder and it has nothing new to offer, it can only be considered as an insult.
