Outpost 2: Divided Destiny
Review by toy sock thing
"An RTS more in-depth than "Build Barracks. Train Soldier. Kill.""
A large meteor is quickly approaching the Earth. The only way to preserve humanity is to build a starship to evacuate Earth or nuke the meteor. Obviously, they attempt to nuke the meteor. This has the complete opposite of the desired effect, spliting the meteor in two which will destroy the Earth rather than make it inhospitable. The starship is launched just at the meteor impacts the Earth. Centuries later, the last of humanity awakens from cold-sleep with one goal: survival. Years later, however, the once peaceful colony, named Eden, has been divided into two: Eden wishes to terraform the planet, named New Terra, into an Earth-like world. The splinter colony, Plymouth, wishes to live on the planet as it is. Eden and Plymouth begin having peaceful negotiations, some of which aren't very peaceful. In a drastic move, Plymouth leaders disabled the communications satellite in orbit, not relizing it could never be reactivated. This is where you come in. You can choose between Eden and Plymouth, both of which grow differently with different weapons and structures.
Eden Story:
Eden scientists were developing a secret terraforming microbe that broke down compounds into their base elements. Water, for example, would become two molecules of hydrogen and one molecule of water. Secret weapons were also being developed. The general public knows nothing of this. Eventually, a town meeting is held in the Lab these projects were being developed in. Suddenly, the Lab explodes while half the population was in it! The secret terraforming microbe, known as "The Blight" is incredibly dangerous to humans. The remaining colonists must evacuate as far from their home as they can.
Plymouth Story:
After departing from Eden, Plymouth wished to live on New Terra without terraforming it. However, New Terra, which was thought to be geologically "dead" (all volcanoes dormant, etc), though apparently it isn't. A massive volcanic erruption threatens to destroy the entire colony. Plymouth, too must evacuate. The new volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are a side effect of the Blight.
The two colonies have only one hope for survival: to build another starship. There are only enough resources for one starship. It means on ething: WAR!
Everything about this game is good. It's really great. It gets a ten out of ten.
Why's it so good? Because, as I said, it's more than "Build Barracks. Train Soldier. Kill." You have to manage a population, train workers and scientists, and make sure you have enough food for them. Multiplayer is excellent, too.
