Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness
Review by Zita
"Angel of Darkness. Hey that sounds Cool! I think."
PLOT-6
Hey, it had a plot. Actually, I was rather intrigued and happily figured out the mystery that was involved. Then I got to the final boss. Apparently I didn't have it figured out. Come to think of it, I don't think that the creators even had it figured out. So I left the game in frustration after the lack of an ending clip scene that would tell me that everything was all right, that Lara beat that bad guys, that Kurtis (a bonus character that you can play for a couple levels) truly does exist. So I had to go through the work of producing my own ending for a sense of closure. And on a side note, it is NOT as easy to break into the Louvre as this game makes it seem.
GAME PLAY-3
Limited ammo. Delayed reactions. A million guns that do the same thing. Bleh. Bleh. Bleh. All there really is to say is that I could move Lara and Kurtis from point A to point B. It's a plus.
GRAPHICS-8
They were rather good all things considered. Textures were detailed and convincing. My main beef was that there were several walls that were simply missing. They were just not there. My minor beef was that I couldn't see the lasers in the Louvre, but that might have been my computer. My annoyed beef is that Lara kept on changing clothes and I have no idea where she got them. They would NOT fit in her little backpack (I don't even know how her guns fit in there).
SOUND-9
I like Lara's accent. Most of the characters had very intriguing and exciting voices, while others were rather bland. But even more important, the music, ahhhh the music. It was some good stuff. I especially like the opening theme, how it opens so soft and beautiful with a few brass punctuations and then turns into an all out fanfare. But . . . I didn't sit there and listen to the music for hours on end. Really I didn't.
OVERALL-6.5ish
Eidos did rather well when trying to give this game a more realistic touch but threw away any regard for being able to move a character without the world ending and all of Hell breaking loose. Still, the plot kept me intrigued enough to keep going. And the music, man, I love music. Anyway, good game if you play games for the plot, but still don't buy it for over $10, okay? Cool Beans.
