"This game in a word: Addictive *Review For Older Version Of Gunbound*"
*NOTE* This was a review of the older version of Gunbound; Thor's Hammer. I personally can't stand the new version; World Champion. I will not be updating the review for that version. *NOTE*
My friend have been playing this game for about two months before I submitted and tried it out myself. I was amazed by the size of the file. 99.5 megs at the time I write this. Because this site is a large part of the experience I'll also review the site.
www.gunbound.net
This site you can see all your stats from playing, your win percent, average hit, your win percent by level your on. It's all there. That is the major component to the site. The message board you have is very very poorly put together, hard to read the replies are often times just flooded with people claiming to be scammed or people asking for free avatars. There is a FAQ on what to and what not to do. And a board to post up screen shots. Often times some idiot comes up and posts porn. So try to keep your kids off the screen shot part if you let him or her play this game. Alright, enough of this and onto the actual game.
Sound
Alright, for the sound, there are some good news and bad news. The good news is the sound effects are beautiful and crisp sounding. The bad news is how god awful the in game music is. It's not that bad when you start, even catchy for a little. Then by the time you get to actually know how to play, you are tired to no end of it. Thank god that if you are using any computer that is even semi-decent you should be able to play your own MP3 files and turn off the music of the game.
Graphics
For this kind of game, I have to admit the graphics are great. Compare it to Worms World Party and this game is actually even better looking then it. The explosions are very well done. The backgrounds are full 3d art and parts will move. I still wonder how they could make this game free. The shots from every bot look great. The lighting effects off some of the avatar items will glow pretty well. Just overall this game looks so much better then what you payed for.
Gameplay
If you could give me just one word to describe this game, it would be addictive. I spent days worth of hours sitting on the computer playing this game in the past 5 months. It keeps me coming back, for the gaining of gp to rank up, or to just gain more gold to complete my avatar set. But, let me explain how this game works. You log in, select a server. There are twelve servers. Four of them noob servers, two avatar on, two avatar off. One of them is a pro server for anyone higher then the noob servers, and six free servers. When you first start go into one of the noob server avatar off servers. Enter a game, then you will see more people, with speech bubbles telling you to ready up. Now let me give you a fair warning about the people in this game. Most of the people are very idiotic. They either think they are better no matter what. Just ignore them. Don't let them bother your game. Now, you can select items to help you in your game. And there are quite a few of bots to choose from. Now the actual game, you have a small area you can move, an area you can change the angle of your shots, and to control the power of your shots. After each game you gain (or loose if you are really bad) gold and GP. GP is basically the experience from each game.
Now, I've created my account in March and in mid June I am still playing it once a day. The last time I've played one game that long was back in mid 90's when I played Sonic 3 that often. I would give this game a download and a try. This game gets a 9 from me.
